Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a related specialized area or field, or equivalent is required plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
Clearance Requirements:
Department of Defense Secret security clearance is required within a reasonable period of time. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

As our Advanced Technical Writing Specialist, you will create, develop, plan, write, and edit complex operational, instructional, interactive electronic technical manuals (IETMs), maintenance or test procedures for paper, multimedia, or web-based publication. You will act as the primary technical editor on client deliverables, implementing editorial and document governance standards to ensure quality and style.
This role involves documenting engineering processes, editing software developer and engineering staff’s notes, and applying formatting to support hardware and software test procedures. You will work in a team environment, providing feedback and critique to develop leadership skills and documentation expertise.
Job Duties/Responsibilities
- Develops operational procedural and maintenance manuals in accordance with MIL-STD standards.
- Knowledge of S1000D compliant IETM development and experience working in an Agile environment.
- Collaborates with SMEs, developers, and engineers to gather technical details, ensuring documentation meets operational and end-user requirements.
- Interprets engineering data, technical drawings, BOMs, and system specifications to develop user-friendly documentation.
- Supports documentation efforts throughout the full lifecycle of Navy systems or programs.
- Creates supporting graphics to enhance electronic technical manuals.
- Works with the development team to meet project deadlines and deliver high-quality results.
Required Experience And Skills
- Ability to research unfamiliar technology and describe it clearly for end-users.
- Experience writing and editing technical documentation in various formats (.doc, .PDF, HTML, XML/SGML).
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent communication skills and meticulous attention to detail.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with XML editors (e.g., XMLSpy, Arbortext).
- Understanding of S1000D applicability.
- Familiarity with JIRA, Confluence, and content management systems.
- Basic graphic design principles.
Additional Information
