Principal Software Engineer, Graphics
Location: San Mateo, CA
As a Principal Software Engineer, you will lead the team, collaborating with Product Management, Architects, Engineering, and Game Studios. You should have extensive hands-on technical expertise, industry knowledge, and excellent communication skills. Your understanding of Android, game engines, graphics, GPUs, and hardware constraints will help drive innovation on our platforms.
You will shape the graphics platform for our next-generation mobile applications, applying industry best practices to create fluid, high-performance experiences with scalability. You will participate in product roadmaps, identify improvement areas, and incorporate these into development initiatives.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the design, development, and integration of graphics frameworks to improve development efficiency across mobile teams.
- Develop code and frameworks that optimize rendering, memory usage, CPU/GPU efficiency, and system stability by bridging Android and GPU hardware.
- Collaborate with global game studios, UI designers, and product managers to translate requirements into graphics solutions.
- Present technical designs and share knowledge in forums, contributing insights to Sony development groups.
- Identify performance bottlenecks and implement solutions to enhance customer experience.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.
- Over 10 years of experience in AAA and mobile game development or graphics platforms.
- Deep understanding of graphics and lighting techniques.
- Solid knowledge of 3D math, rendering algorithms, and shader development.
- Experience with APIs such as DirectX 11/12, OpenGL 4.x, and Vulkan.
- Proven ability to lead real-time rendering, GPU/CPU profiling, and shader optimization.
- Expertise in C++, shader languages, and multi-threaded programming in Unreal and other engines.
- Experience managing projects from scoping to global launch.
- Ability to influence technology decisions through strong partnerships with architects and engineers.
- Experience documenting designs, implementations, and tests for international teams.
- Contributions to open-source libraries are a plus.

The estimated base pay range is $246,100 — $369,100 USD.
