Film Editor
Distant Moon's Film Editor reports to our studio in Leesburg, VA and works under the creative direction of our directors and/or Post Production Supervisor to produce assemblies, rough cuts, fine cuts, and final cuts that meet Distant Moon's high standards and capture the vision of the client as interpreted by a project's creative lead. The Film Editor reports directly to the Post Production Supervisor.
Roles and Responsibilities include:
- Working under the direction of the Post Production Supervisor for all creative feedback and reporting to the Post Production Manager for all scheduling and deliverables.
- Working under the creative direction of a project's director and/or the Post Production Supervisor to ensure the goals of an edit are met at every stage.
- Using Distant Moon's standard operating procedures for all editorial work.
- Organizing, syncing, and categorizing footage for Distant Moon edits.
- Taking a lead when applicable in editing together assembly cuts, rough cuts, fine cuts, and final cuts of edits.
- Serving as the initial round of review before work goes to a supervisor or director.
- Basic sound mixing for getting voice and music to appropriate levels up until an edit is sent off to the sound department for final mix and design.
- Sourcing archival images, video, and other online assets as directed by the post-production supervisor.
- Finding music and/or editing music tracks together.
- Uploading edits to frame.io and sharing review links internally.
- As applicable to your interests, potentially traveling periodically for on-set/on-location production, either locally or on travel jobs at Distant Moon's expense.
Essential Skills and Experience:
- Minimum of five years experience in post-production and editorial
- Proficiency in utilizing Adobe Creative Cloud applications to design and create custom content: Premiere Pro, Media Encoder, Photoshop, After Effects
- Proficiency in MacOS
- Thorough understanding of and passion for all elements encompassed in the art of filmmaking, including narrative, color, flow, timing, sound, and composition.
- Motivated and self-directed.
- Strong commitment to excellence, creativity, collaboration, integrity, and a lead-by-example work ethic.
- Able to self-examine and revise work before submitting for review.
- Welcomes constructive criticism and enjoys learning new ways to sharpen and hone craft.

Additional Preferred Skills (Not Required):
- Adobe Audition and Illustrator
- Davinci Resolve
- Interest in long-form narrative content and being part of a growing film studio.
- Live stream and live sound experience.

- Work environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal. The majority of this job is completed in an open-space office setting.
