Position Summary:
The Integrated Media Technician plays a key role in supporting the use of technology in artworks, installations, and educational interpretive elements to enhance the public’s experience of Crystal Bridges and the Momentary (“CBMO”). This role is responsible for planning and implementing multimedia installations across CBMO, including special exhibitions, gallery rotations, and public spaces. The Integrated Media Technician reports to the Head of Art Preparation and Collections Care and works with many departments on the planning and implementation of multimedia installation, including troubleshooting, repair and maintenance. The Integrated Media Technician in the Art Management department works in strong collaboration with cross-functional teams, which include Brand Strategy and Communication, Information Technology (IT), and Building Management.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Gathers and evaluates technical needs and requirements for works of art, installations, and interpretive tools at CBMO.
- Collaborates with stakeholders to provide and maintain technology solutions.
- Installs and troubleshoots digital content to ensure its smooth and consistent presentation.
- Manages components of project budgets on applicable expenses including vendor services, tools, equipment, software, and hardware.
- Attends project planning and tracking meetings when appropriate.
- Makes recommendations on hardware, tools, specs, and general technical set-ups for in-gallery media projects including interactives, mobile experiences, media displays, projection mapping, and AR experiences.
- Collaborates on the testing and execution of prototypes and proof of concepts to validate feasibility of interactive products.
- Work closely with ecosystem partners in IT and Building Management, as well as CBMO teams such as Art Preparation and Collections Care and Brand Strategy and Communications, on the installation of time-based media artwork and hardware for digital engagements.
- Researches and implements methods for maintenance and upgrade of Time-Based Media hardware
- Collaborates with Registration and IT on file storage and usage of Time-Based Media artwork
- Creates simple instruction sheets for running and maintaining equipment.
- With IT, jointly oversee inventory, storage and transportation of AV equipment.
- As needed, supports troubleshooting of multimedia elements.
- Other general duties as assigned
- Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of related work experience.
- Knowledge of and experience with a wide variety of digital media and other technologies used in works of art, art installations, and in educational settings such as museums.
- Basic knowledge of artwork handling ‘best practices’
- Experience successfully prioritizing and completing multiple overlapping project elements.
- Ability to communicate with a broad range of CBMO staff, artists, and vendors. The person in this position must be able to explain technical issues in a non-technical manner.
- Ability to understand architectural and technical drawings.
- Ability to utilize necessary manual and powered tools for mounting media hardware to walls, casework, kiosks, etc
- Ability to work in a safe and efficient manner in a deadline-driven environment.
- Growth mindset and an eagerness to learn and master new technologies and troubleshoot technical problems.
- Organizational planning, problem-solving, and collaboration skills.
- Ability and willingness to be a team player both within the department and throughout CBMO.

- Physical demands: In the work environments described below, Position requires working at desk/workstation and utilizing a computer, audio and video equipment and telephone for prolonged periods of time, good eye/hand coordination, verbal and written conversation with others, walking, standing, lifting/carrying (up to 35 lbs.). Vision abilities required by the job include both color and close vision.
- Work Environment: Work will be performed in an office environment and in museum spaces as necessary. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
