Overview
The position is primarily a Floor Director with some duties as a Newscast Director and Camera Operator. As a Newscast Director, this position will serve as standby (or backup) to the Primary Newscast Director and will typically direct at least one show per week, often more. This role involves composing and framing camera shots, applying technical knowledge of lenses and camera settings to achieve desired effects, and coordinating technical operators during newscasts and other productions.
STUDIO CAMERA OPERATOR ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Compose and frame camera shots, adjusting lenses and camera settings to achieve desired effects.
- Adjust camera focus, exposure, and lighting as requested by the Newscast Director.
- Operate studio and remote cameras during live broadcasts.
- Coordinate with Directors and crew on show rundowns, effects, camera movements, and lighting.
- Greet and mic guests for interviews and performances.
- Maintain, test, and repair camera equipment.
- Assist in coding shows.
- Manage floor crew and anchors on the floor.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
NEWSCAST DIRECTOR ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Coordinate technical staff during broadcasts and productions.
- Supervise and assign duties to technical staff including Camera, Audio, and Teleprompter operators.
- Monitor visuals and direct camera/video staff on compositions.
- Act as liaison between Engineering, News, and Creative Departments.
- Collaborate with News staff to deliver high-quality newscasts.
- Switch video sources during live broadcasts.
- Test and ensure proper operation of equipment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Experience with Ross OverDrive is preferred.
REQUIREMENTS & SKILLS:
- Ability to perform under high stress conditions.
- Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
- Proficiency with office and broadcast equipment.
- Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize, and multitask.
Physical Demands & Work Environment: Ability to stand, sit, reach, climb, and operate equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Must be able to work indoors and outdoors, handle repetitive movements, climb ladders, and operate controls accurately.
