This is an entry level position. The Broadcast TMC Operator primarily performs technical work, a variety of routine technical tasks for monitoring broadcast Television Master Control (TMC) operations and programming services of WTIU-TV, WFIU-FM on-air programming, along with daily TV and Radio service operations. This position includes broadcast program monitoring, monitoring cable and satellite (DBS), PBS GA/YouTube signals delivery to the viewing audience, as well as taking corrective action should problems develop.
Job Summary
The Broadcast TMC Operator is responsible for setting up, controlling, and monitoring all Television broadcast, cable, and satellite signals broadcasting programs to the viewing audience. Must be versatile and able to learn specialized software applications and have an aptitude for operating electronic equipment. Must have great attention to detail, have excellent computer skills, and be able to work in a fast-paced environment. This includes working with user workstations, video server equipment, broadcasting automation equipment, and file based digital media/streams.
Department-Specific-Responsibilities
- Operates and maintains the Television Master Control (TMC): routes broadcast signals to campus, uplinks sites, and other state IPBS/IU destinations.
- Works with SD (Schedule Directors) workers act as operational resource on technical operations and on questions regarding policies and procedures.
- Reviews all recorded media from satellite, IPBS interconnection and preforming video dubs/Prep including internet files received from PBS , other Indiana PBS stations and local FTP (File Transfer Protocol) sites.
- Monitors and provides production staff update timing on live event, special weather events, News clips, EAS (Emergency Alert System) insertion of graphics and take manual control of automation operations as needed to maintain proper and timely programming feeds.
- Monitors television and radio programming alarms and providing corrective action to return proper programming feeds as needed after hours and weekends and holidays.
- Maintains discrepancy reports and note any operational difficulties or variances from the original traffic logs.
- Logs any modifications or correcting actions taken in delivering media as logged due to any programming or mechanical issues or as directed.
- Reports directly to program manager or traffic manage any programming errors, missing programs/recordings errors or deleted media files preventing the original media from airing.
- Provides general TMC assistance to staff, faculty, provide operational support for Radio and TV Services and The Media School.
- Acts as A2 for RTVS productions and Athletics events as needed for help with audio support.

Required

Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. This position requires the ability to work shifts during nights and weekends. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
