Broadcast Systems Engineer
KOAT, the ABC affiliate in Albuquerque, NM, is seeking a skilled and self-motivated Broadcast Systems Engineer to join our Technology Team. This position’s primary responsibility is the maintenance and technical support of our microwave, translator, and transmitter sites across the state. Reporting to the Assistant Chief Engineer, this role plays a key part in ensuring the reliability and integrity of our 100% IP-based signal delivery infrastructure.

Broadcast Systems Engineer
KOAT, the ABC affiliate in Albuquerque, NM, is seeking a skilled and self-motivated Broadcast Systems Engineer to join our Technology Team. This position’s primary responsibility is the maintenance and technical support of our microwave, translator, and transmitter sites across the state. Reporting to the Assistant Chief Engineer, this role plays a key part in ensuring the reliability and integrity of our 100% IP-based signal delivery infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot microwave, translator, and transmitter sites statewide.
- Perform regular site visits for preventive maintenance and equipment inspection.
- Ensure reliable IP-based content delivery to transmission points.
- Assist in day-to-day studio technical operations when not on the road.
- Support basic electrical maintenance and GPIO wiring tasks.
- Collaborate with engineering staff to support live broadcasts, special projects, and studio upgrades.
- Strong networking skills, including experience with IP routing, managed switches, and remote monitoring systems.
- Basic electronics knowledge, including GPIO, relays, and RF signal flow.
- Ability to work independently and travel to remote transmitter and translator sites.
- Familiarity with broadcast transmission equipment, including microwave links and translators.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to document maintenance activities.
- Higher education in engineering or a related technical field, or equivalent experience preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and customer-service skills.
