Job Description and Responsibilities
The Penn State Facilities Engineering Institute (PSFEI) is seeking a Technical Writer to manage documents and content for publications across our four main service divisions: education, energy, engineering services, and facility condition assessments. Responsibilities include preparing technical reports, training materials, website content, and other communications for internal and external clients. This is a three-year term appointment with potential for renewal.
About PSFEI
Founded in 1947, PSFEI has a long-standing tradition of providing facility engineering services. It is part of the College of Engineering at Penn State University Park, serving clients across Pennsylvania and nationally. We foster a culture of open communication, teamwork, and respect.
Your Role
You will play a key role in our communication efforts, managing message deployment, content publishing, and platform coordination, while collaborating with teams to support communication strategies. The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, proactive, and passionate about clear communication.
Responsibilities
- Review, proofread, edit, and re-write documents for publication, ensuring consistency and adherence to standards.
- Structure and layout complex reports and collaborate with experts to translate technical information into accessible content.
- Coordinate with the Education Team on review, editing, and formatting of educational materials.
- Assist in planning and executing projects and events, including sourcing quotes and collaborating with marketing for printed materials.
- Develop style guides and standardized procedures for various communications.
- Manage document files on SharePoint and maintain organized records.
- Manage the unit’s website with input from the College of Engineering Communications team.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree plus 1+ years of relevant experience; 3+ years preferred.
- Self-motivated, quality-focused, able to manage multiple priorities, and familiar with engineering disciplines.
Additional Details
This is a full-time position based in State College, PA, with flexible work arrangements supported. A valid driver’s license and background checks are required. Salary range: $61,800 - $89,600.
