Location: Milford High School SUMMARY DESCRIPTION: The Library Media Assistant assists the Library Media Specialist in providing a well-organized, smoothly functioning library environment in which teachers and students can take full advantage of available resources.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of child development, instructional strategies and practices applicable to assignment, and instructional goals and policies of Milford School District. Ability to assist with implementation of the instructional program and to participate in monitoring and ensuring appropriate student behavior. Ability to exhibit patient behavior and to work effectively with children, young adults, and staff members. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and to perform all required tasks. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Knowledge of standard desktop computer hardware and software such as Microsoft Office products, Google, and Follett Desitiny (or other similar library management systems). Cataloging experience preferred. EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Associate's Degree in Liberal Arts or its equivalent. Three years' transferable experience is preferred. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Maintains Library Center materials
a. manages and maintains circulation desk systems including circulation of library materials, textbook collection, interlibrary loans, reserves, and holds
b. processes, manages and maintains library collection on a weekly and ongoing basis
c. maintains statistics for library patron and material usage
2. Manages and maintains Library
a. creates a welcoming, supportive, and organized environment for all patrons, encouraging learning, collaboration, and creativity
b. assist in the supervision of students in the library media center
c. assists users as needed with library resources and other related student needs
d. assists in display creation and sets up displays, including outside case
e. schedules classes in library using established scheduling system
3. Assists with miscellaneous services
a. lamination, poster creation & 3D printing of materials for staff and students
b. supports and assists in the planning and implementation of library programming events
c. supervises, manages and trains student volunteers and after school students
d. performs other tasks and assumes other responsibilities as assigned by the Library Media Specialist or Principal
