The Director of Music Ministries is a part-time position, primarily responsible for leading and overseeing the volunteer singers and musicians in the various music ministries of the Church. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to the following: 1. Plan and develop a comprehensive music ministry, which is doctrinally sound and spiritually uplifting and is in concert with the vision of the Church. 2. Communicate effectively with the Pastor and singers/musicians to organize plans for practices and worship services. 3. Provide music at Sunday morning services as well as seasonal worship services such as evening Lenten and Advent services involving the entire congregation. 4. Direct Chancel and Sunrise choirs. 5. Support contemporary music service. 6. Coordinate music selection and other activities with Accompanist and/or Organist. 7. Manage all musical groups within the Church including children, youth and handbell choirs. Recruit and train volunteer leaders for these activities when needed and provide assistance in obtaining music and coordinating/scheduling activities within the overall life of the Church. 8. Manage the use and maintenance of all Church pianos and organ (in combination with the Accompanist and/or Organist). 9. Meet regularly with the Pastor for staff meetings, as well as attend all Administrative Council Meetings. 10. Manage music ministry budget. 11. Strive to increase the level of expertise and proficiency of performance through study, membership in professional organizations and attendance at conferences, workshops, etc. Conference expenses may be reimbursed based upon prior approval. 12. Serve as the direct supervisor of any musical accompanists. 13. Perform other duties as assigned by the Pastor and/or the SPR committee. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS include, but are not limited to, the following: At least six (6) months experience in similar position directing church choirs and working with volunteers At least three (3) References, with contact information (no family members) Personal Responsibility and Dependability Strong organizational, communication, and people skills CPR Certification must be acquired and maintained Satisfactory completion of background check Random drug screening may be required JOB PARAMETERS : Hours: Required hours will be as much time as necessary for preparation, practice and services. Vacation: After six (6) months, four (4) Sundays per year; must identify and secure an acting Director when on vacation. Tardiness and absences will not be tolerated. Communicate in advance for: 1) any planned absences with an advanced two-week notice; or 2) any unplanned absence at least two hours prior to an activity or event. Attire should be tasteful, non-revealing, and functional for church duties. Immediate termination will occur in cases of intentional verbal, physical, or emotional abuse, or neglect of any child, parent or church member. The Director of Music Ministries will be compensated for weddings as stipulated in the Church Policy Handbook. NOTE: This position is to be filled on an examination basis for 6 weeks, after which time the Pastor will review with the Staff-Parish Relations Committee his/her desire to offer or not offer the part-time position on a permanent basis. The Pastor and Staff-Parish Relations Committee (SPR) As an employee of LGUMC, the Director of Music Ministries is directly accountable to the Pastor for his/her job performance. The SPR committee acts as a consultant to the Pastor on staffing issues. On issues of hiring, compensation and termination, the Pastor and SPR work jointly together for the good of the Church. As a staff member, the Director of Music Ministries shall have the right and responsibility to discuss with the SPR concerns he/she may have at any time. This will include a meeting with the Pastor and a representative(s) of the SPR at least once per year to discuss job description, compensation and job performance evaluation.
