Description
The Oregon City Public Library is looking for enthusiastic, experienced, and service-oriented team players to serve as On-Call Library Assistants. This is an ongoing requisition meant to create a pool of applicants. The library reviews applications as-needed, so there may be delays in communication.
Our Library serves more than 60,000 residents within Oregon City and surrounding areas, and is part of the LINCC cooperative serving over 420,000 people in Clackamas County.
Areas of Work
- Youth Services: Assisting children, families, and educators with resources, shelving, and program prep. Experience with children aged birth to fourteen is preferred.
- Adult Services: Assisting with locating materials, digital resources, and reservations. Comfort with technology is preferred.
- Circulation Services: Greeting patrons, managing library cards, fines, and handling materials movement. Flexibility and responsiveness are valued.
- Carnegie Computer Lab: Assisting patrons with technology, troubleshooting, and basic computer skills. Patience and basic computer knowledge are required.
All candidates should have a passion for customer service and experience in busy library environments. Shifts include evenings and weekends, with some on-call shifts on short notice.
Application Process
Applications are reviewed continuously until December 31, 2023. The library seeks candidates who are enthusiastic about contributing to our team.
Typical Duties
- Assisting patrons in finding materials and using resources.
- Checking materials in and out, managing overdue notices.
- Shelving and organizing books and periodicals.
- Supporting programming and library beautification efforts.
- Performing clerical tasks and data entry.
Qualifications
Knowledge and Skills: Basic library procedures, reference tools, Dewey Decimal System, courteous customer service, basic math, and writing skills.
Abilities: Follow detailed procedures, work with diverse populations, learn library systems, and work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
Physical Requirements
Ability to work indoors, handle light to medium materials, and use computers. Good hearing, speech, manual dexterity, and mobility are necessary.
Education and Experience
High School diploma plus 1 year in a library, educational support, or customer service. Library science courses or certification are a plus. Bilingual skills are desirable.
Additional Requirements
Possibility of a valid driver’s license and passing a criminal background check.
