POSITION TITLE: Videographer
REPORTS TO: Director of Communications
HOURS & FLSA STATUS: Part-time, hourly
BROAD STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
This newly created position will help advance the evangelization and educational efforts underway in the diocese. You will have the opportunity to tell stories that engage the faithful, document important events in the life of the Church, and support ministries and initiatives through high-quality video production. This role is responsible for capturing, editing, and producing video content aligned with the church’s mission, values, and evangelization efforts. A majority of this individual’s working hours will be in the field.
Specific Duties:
- Collaborate with the communications director and staff of other departments to generate ideas, film, edit, and publish content related to diocesan-wide initiatives, campaigns, and events.
- Capture testimonials, faith-based stories, and ministry activities to inspire and educate the community.
- Develop concepts, scripts, storyboards, and shot lists as needed.
- Coordinate filming schedules with parishes, schools, and ministry leaders.
- Cut and assemble raw footage, add effects, color correction, audio mixing, and finalize videos for distribution.
- Ensure proper catechetical consistency of content.
- Responsible for editing the summer weekly social media series, Fueling Up with Father.
- Track editorial deliverables and ensure assigned deadlines are met.
- Maintain, set up, and troubleshoot cameras, lighting, and sound equipment.
- Adapt videos for different formats and platforms (social media, websites, broadcast).
- Keep up with industry trends, new technology, and editing techniques to enhance video quality and efficiency.
- Maintain knowledge of and awareness of issues of importance in the Catholic Church.
- Position requires adherence to diocesan policies and procedures, as well as exceptional collegiality and ability to work in a team environment.
- Be an ambassador for the Diocese of Grand Rapids when on location.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Practicing Roman Catholic in good standing, possessing a thorough knowledge of the teachings of the Catholic Church, with the ability to apply that knowledge to storyboards and finished products.
- A degree in digital media, video production, journalism, communications or another related field is preferred but not required.
- At least two years of experience showing good technical skills related to video production is required.
- Self-starter who is able to work independently.
- Detail-oriented.
- Comfortable with a variety of software technologies, including Microsoft, Adobe Creative Cloud or other video editing suites.
- Ability to juggle multiple projects under tight deadlines.
- Must have reliable transportation and a valid Michigan driver’s license.
- Ability to obtain VIRTUS certification and additional requirements as outlined in the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People.
Working conditions:
- The employee must be able to load/unload video and audio equipment on his/her own. This individual must be able to sit, stand, squat and kneel while filming to ensure appropriate shots.
- Work will primarily be out in the field at churches, schools, and events. Evening and weekend work will be required to match event schedules.
