About You
You are a creator, problem solver, and systems thinker. You don't just design interfaces, you
craft experiences that feel intuitive, elegant, and impactful. You believe that design is not just
about aesthetics but about understanding users deeply and translating that understanding into
products that make their lives better.
You thrive in environments where there is no established design system and are excited by the
opportunity to build one from the ground up. You have the confidence to define how design
should function within a company, but you also have the humility to collaborate closely with
engineers, product managers, and business stakeholders.
You are a strategic thinker who understands that design decisions affect business goals,
technical feasibility, and user engagement. You balance vision with execution, knowing when to
push for bold ideas and when to focus on practical, incremental improvements.
You also know that great design is a team sport. You can educate others on the value of UX/UI,
influencing without authority and fostering a culture where design is an integral part of product
development.
If this sounds like you, we want to talk.
What You'll Do
As Senior UX/UI Designer, you will be responsible for shaping and executing the design
strategy for one or more of RSM's proprietary student, parent, teacher and staff support
platforms and tools. You will play a critical role in defining the user experience for students,
educators, and parents, ensuring that RSM's digital offerings are both intuitive and impactful.
In this role, you will:
- Establish UX/UI best practices: Introduce processes for user research, wireframing, prototyping, and usability testing in a company that has never had a dedicated design function.
- Create a design system: Develop a scalable, cohesive design language that can be applied across RSM's digital products.
- Conduct user research: Lead qualitative and quantitative studies to deeply understand the needs of students, teachers, and parents.
- Collaborate cross-functionally: Work with engineering, product, curriculum teams, and business stakeholders to ensure designs align with both user needs and technical feasibility.
- Advocate for UX/UI: Educate teams on why design matters, ensuring that user experience is a core part of product development.
- Design and iterate rapidly: Prototype solutions quickly, test them with real users, and refine based on feedback.
- Ensure accessibility and inclusivity: Design with a focus on usability for diverse learners, including students with different needs and learning styles.
Where You'll Work
The Russian School of Mathematics (RSM) is one of the fastest-growing and most respected
after-school math programs in the U.S., serving thousands of students across 80 locations.
Our mission is to build strong mathematical foundations in students, empowering them with
problem-solving skills that last a lifetime.
As a Senior UX/UI Designer, you'll play a pivotal role in how we leverage design to enhance
student learning, improve teacher experiences, and engage parents in their child's educational
journey.
We are an entrepreneurial, mission-driven team that believes in the power of rigorous, engaging
math education. If you're excited about tackling early-stage UX/UI challenges while making a
tangible impact on students' learning experiences, we'd love to hear from you.
Who Should Apply?
- Experienced UX/UI designers (5+ years) with a strong track record of designing and shipping digital products.
- Self-starters who have successfully introduced design processes in an organization without a strong UX/UI function.
- Strategic thinkers who balance long-term vision with immediate execution.
- Empathetic researchers who know how to extract real insights from user studies.
- Influential communicators who can educate teams on the value of UX/UI and influence without authority.
- Mission-driven professionals who care about education and the role design can play in improving learning experiences.
