Overview
Menlo School is seeking a talented and creative Sports Videographer, Photographer, and Content Creator to bring our Upper and Middle School Athletics programs to life through compelling multimedia storytelling. In this part-time hybrid role, you’ll produce high-quality videos and photography that capture the energy, excellence, and spirit of both upper and middle school athletics programs. Your work will spotlight student-athletes and coaches, showcase game-day moments, and highlight how sports build resilience, character, and community. From dynamic action photos and program profiles to hype reels and highlight videos, you’ll create a mix of engaging content that celebrates the impact of Menlo Athletics. Reporting to the Director of Communications, this is a part-time (.6 FTE) 10-month appointment, starting August 16, 2025, and ending June 15, 2026, with the potential for annual renewal. We are seeking Bay Area-based candidates, as most filming and photography work will take place on our campus in Atherton, during late afternoons, evenings, and occasional weekends. Video editing and image processing may be done remotely with a flexible schedule. Filming hours would vary, depending on project needs, but may look something like filming on site for 4-8 hours over 2-3 days per week, and the balance of time would be spent editing and posting content. Key Responsibilities
- Capture photos and video footage from a wide range of athletic events of more than 20 sports across three seasons, including competitions, practices, interviews, and photo days—many of which happen on variable days between the hours of 3:00 pm and 8:00 pm.
- Create a high volume of dynamic, creative content, including:
- High-quality game and event highlight videos and photography
- Short-form social media reels, video clips, and social campaigns
- Hype videos and athlete/team profiles
- Storytelling videos that showcase the impact and broader athletics experience
- Collaborate with the Communications and Athletics teams to set content priorities and develop a multi-media content strategy and calendar
- Arrange, set up, and conduct interviews with various students, coaches, and athletic staff
- Edit photos and videos remotely, with the ability to meet tight turnaround times when needed
- Work with the School’s Sports Information Director to prepare and post content for Instagram, Vimeo, Facebook, X, the School’s website and digital magazine, and other internal and external channels
- Partner with the School’s video producer and photographer to deliver image and video selects, organize sequences, and archive photo and video content for future use
- Assist with second camera work for photography and videography of other major school traditions and events as needed and agreed upon with advance notice
- Exceptional visual storytelling skills with a strong portfolio showcasing sports photography, videography, and editing expertise
- Experience operating professional video and still photography equipment, including cameras (such as the Sony a7 IV Mirrorless), lenses, gimbals, lighting, audio, and post-production workflows
- Must be comfortable switching from photography to video filming quickly during event coverage
- Proficiency with photo and video editing software, specifically Adobe Premiere/Adobe Creative Suite, plus DaVinci Resolve for color correction, strongly desired.
- A passion for athletics and the ability to capture the benefits of athletics participation and tell the story of student-athlete experiences
- Strong interpersonal skills; able to build rapport with students, coaches, and staff, and put subjects at ease on camera and in interview settings
- The ability to multitask, work independently, and collaborate across departments
- Demonstrated project management and file organizational skills
- Experience working with students and/or in a school environment is a plus
- Familiarity with motion graphics and animation is optional but desired
- A BA in photography, film studies, video production, photo journalism, or a related field is preferred, but all applicants with strong portfolios and demonstrated relevant experience in sports photography and videography will be considered
