Job Description: Speech Communication Adjunct Instructor
Instructors apply the Student-Centered Active Education model to teach, inspire, motivate, guide, and support students in their assigned courses and programs. They are expected to contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and lifelong learning by participating in faculty and professional development activities to enhance teaching and learning at SAE.

Responsibilities and Duties
- Teach assigned classes in accordance with SAE policies and procedures.
- Deliver instruction aligned with the Student-Centered Active Education model.
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and engagement.
- Participate in academic advising, curriculum development, and campus events such as workshops, orientations, and graduations.
- Maintain accurate attendance records, submit grades and reports on time, and enforce policies.
- Plan and prepare for classes, develop activities supporting learning outcomes.
- Support absent and high-risk students through advising and documentation.
- Complete annual faculty development activities to improve instructional skills and support diverse learners.
- Maintain instructor eligibility per federal, state, and accreditation standards.
- For full-time instructors, supervise makeup sessions, provide tutoring and advising, support faculty development, and substitute as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills, Knowledge, and Experience
Qualifications vary based on course level:
- For General Education courses: A master's degree with 18 semester or 24 quarter credits in the relevant field.
- For Diploma or Associate’s Degree courses: A bachelor’s degree and at least 4 years of industry experience; credentials in the field if the degree is outside the teaching area; exceptions possible with approval.
- For Bachelor’s degree courses: A master’s degree and at least 4 years of industry experience; credentials if the degree is outside the teaching area; exceptions possible.
Additional requirements include familiarity with Canvas LMS, learner-centered methodologies, and advanced skills in Google Sheets and Microsoft Excel.
Additional Information and Physical Requirements
This is a part-time, onsite position. Responsibilities include sitting and standing for long periods, handling files and materials, occasional lifting up to 25 pounds, and using a computer for prolonged periods.
