CONTRACT ROLE
Insomniac is seeking a Visual Effects Artist responsible for creating VFX to enhance gameplay, environment, and cinematics within games.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design and implement real-time particle effects using static and animated 2D/3D elements.
- Apply visual FX across various game areas, including environment, gameplay, and cinematics.
- Create FX textures such as color, normal, specular, ambient occlusion, height, and incandescent maps.
- Use DCC software like Maya, Houdini, or similar at an intermediate level.
- Develop FX shaders utilizing node-based shader networks.
- Create simple geometry and UV sets.
- Maintain an intermediate understanding of computer graphics fundamentals and artistic analysis.
- Optimize FX for performance and memory usage.
- Collaborate with development teams to ensure proper FX implementation within the game engine.
- Align FX with the overall art style of the game.
- Coordinate FX layering and timing to craft believable scenes.
- Display professionalism in attendance, communication, feedback reception, and teamwork in a production environment.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Computer Skills:
- Proficiency in Maya, including joints, locators, keyframing, rigid body simulations, hard surface modeling, and UV mapping.
- Proficiency in Photoshop for texture painting and editing.
- Knowledge of node-based shader networks; familiarity with other VFX software is advantageous.
Other Skills:
- Strong teamwork, collaboration, observation, and reference utilization skills.
- Ability to work independently with proficient animation and timing skills.
- Background in traditional arts is a plus.
