Job Description
Under minimal supervision, oversees the editorial content and direction of Arizona Attorney Magazine and manages its daily operations. Responsible for supervising staff to produce a high-quality publication for members. Also oversees related products like the Daily 5 newsletter and the Arizona Attorney Daily blog.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversees all editorial content, manages scheduling, reviews edits, assigns stories, and ensures quality standards are met.
- Copy-edits all text, fact-checks, proofreads, and maintains style guides.
- Coordinates with the Production Manager and Art Director to meet deadlines and ensure quality.
- Works with the Editorial Board to review submissions and develop content ideas aligned with the magazine's mission.
- Develops an annual editorial calendar and expands the magazine’s digital presence.
- Reports and writes articles, covering law-related events and conducting interviews.
- Stays current on legal trends and policies relevant to the publication.
- Collaborates with advertising to benefit readers and advertisers.
- Creates headlines, captions, and manages the overall content flow.
- Works with production on deadlines and design discussions. Serves as a leader and mentor to staff.
- Develops and manages the magazine budget.
- Assists other departments with editing tasks as needed.
- Hires, trains, develops, and appraises staff in coordination with HR.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in journalism, communications, English, or a related field, plus 3+ years of editorial experience.
Skills and Abilities
- Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills; command of language.
- Ability to convey complex topics clearly and engagingly.
- Knowledge of printing processes and terminology.
- Strong customer service skills and professionalism.
- Attention to detail, ability to meet deadlines, and analytical skills.
- Interpersonal skills for handling sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy.
- Ability to perform basic math functions and work independently or in teams.

Computer Skills

Licenses and Travel

Regular attendance, flexibility for additional hours including weekends, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment managing multiple tasks.
