Job Description
Are you skilled at analyzing claims, making decisions, and supporting a team? We’re looking for an Unemployment Insurance Examiner to join our UI operations team, responsible for administering South Carolina’s unemployment insurance claims processes. This role will be responsible for issuing non-monetary decisions that determine claimant eligibility for UI benefits while providing support, assistance, and problem resolution within the UI Operations Department. An ideal candidate will be customer-service oriented with the ability to manage their time well and support a team.
Key Responsibilities
- Initiate correspondence and/or conduct interviews with claimants, employers, and/or other stakeholders via telephone, mail, fax, and electronic methods.
- Utilize appropriate agency standards, handbooks, and software systems when analyzing claims and making administrative adjustments.
- Issue determinations in accordance with Benefit Timeliness Quality (BTQ) standards, SC Codes of Laws, SC regulations, and UI Division policy and guidelines.
- Provide ongoing support, assistance, and guidance to other UI positions as workload dictates, as provided for by Career Pathways.
- Exercise judgment and discretion.
- Effectively communicate clearly in written and oral form.
- Interpret and apply laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.

Education and Experience
A high school diploma and five years of demonstrable experience in claims processing, adjudication, auditing, or similar activities. Knowledge of laws, regulations, policies, and procedures relevant to Unemployment Insurance.
Additional Requirements
Position may require employee to work evenings and weekends. Other duties as required.
Note: A Bachelor's degree and one year of experience in claims processing, adjudication, auditing, or similar activities is preferred.
