About this position:
We are looking to hire a professional FULL-TIME Sound and Video Equipment Technician who is available days, evenings, holidays and/or weekends. Work opportunities are directly related to Seattle Center event schedules; hours of work will vary. This position reports to the Sound and Video Systems Chief.
Here is more of what you will be doing:
- Set up, maintain, repair, program, operate, and troubleshoot both permanently installed and portable sound reinforcement and recording systems; video, broadcast and camera recording operation, video projection, communication, and ancillary electronic systems for a variety of events and performances including theatre, ballet, opera, musical theatre, concerts, corporate, and community events.
- Set up and operate presentation software such as PowerPoint, and KeyNote.
- Design, fabricate, and install new systems and equipment.
- Consult with clients, performers, musicians, and stage managers regarding sound and video requirements. Communicate directly with performers, clients, and Seattle Center staff.
- Select proper microphones, speakers, mixing and amplifying equipment; mix and adjust sound reinforcement equipment during events.
- May coordinate and lead the work of Intermittent Sound and Video Operators.
- May participate in design, specification, documentation and installation of sound, video, and communication systems.
- Work collaboratively with members of the production team, event personnel, artists, and presenters.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Four years’ experience in sound reinforcement and video presentation, including two years in repair, maintenance, and installation of electronic equipment; excellent teamwork, customer service and communication skills.
Desired Qualifications/Experience:
- Proficiency in the operation of digital audio mixing systems, system control via Ethernet and proprietary networks, computer software (Mac and PC), wireless frequency coordination, video distribution, projection systems, production intercom, wireless microphones.
- Certification in Dante Level 3, Adamson Blueprint AV, Yamaha Digital Sound Reinforcement - Dante training course, Yamaha Digital PM Series Rivage, and CL/QL training
- RF coordination of 50+ frequencies usingIntermodulation Analysis System(IAS) and Shure Wireless Workbench software
- Proficiency programming in Lake Controller with Lab Gruppen, BSS London and Audio Architect, RAD Wireless Intercom.
- Proficiency with video editing (Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere Pro), video switching and engineering (Ross Carbonite, and Xpression), video presentation (PowerPoint, KeyNote, ProPresenter, Qlab, VLC) video conference systems and live streaming.
- Experience mixing sound in a large venue for opera, ballet, concerts, lectures, or corporate events.
- Proficiency in design and drawing software (AutoCAD, Visio).
- Experience with 3D printing including design proficiency, printer operation, materials and processes.
- Proficiency with acoustic prediction software (ArrayCalc, Smaart, Tuning Capture, Impulse Responses measurement).
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook); and ability to learn required business systems
- Wireless microphone dressing and maintenance
- Experience installing, and operating fiber optic infrastructure.
- Experience with conference systems (Crestron) and digital media transport
- Experience with digital video recording and editing systems, experience with digital audio recording and editing systems (Logic Pro).
- Experience with professional theatre companies.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
License, Certification, and other Requirements:
- Current Washington State driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility
Work Environment/Physical Demands:
- Must have normal hearing acuity
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 75 pounds.
- Must be able to maneuver safely and work on ladders and catwalks.
- Must be able to work nights, evenings, weekends and/or holidays and extended hours.
The full pay range for this step-progression position is $50.03 - $51.89 per hour. New employees begin at Step 1 of the pay progression, which is $50.03 hourly. Current City employees’ starting rate of pay will be based on Personnel Rules regarding promotions.

Driving Record - A current, "FULL" driving abstract from the Department of Licensing submitted upon offer of employment. Current City of Seattle Employees in a driving position may be required to submit an updated abstract.
Pre-Employment Physical - Successful candidates will be required to pass a pre-employment physical.
