Overview
Under direct supervision, provides reference and reader advisory services and assists with planning and presenting Library programs.
- Provides reference and reader advisory services to Library patrons.
- Provides instruction and assistance in the use of the Library catalog, print and digital collections, copy and print equipment, and other resources and services.
- Assists with planning, promoting, presenting, and evaluating Library programs, including outreach services.
- Assists with the creation of displays and informational materials.
- Assists supervisor in departmental planning and preparing reports.
- Maintains awareness of literature services, reference sources, and public library trends, methods, and ethics.
- Informs supervisor of all work activities.
- Adheres to departmental, personnel, and safety rules and regulations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications:
Associates or equivalent experience in a related field is required.
Work Experience:
One (1) year of public library experience is preferred.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
- Willing to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.
- Knowledge of public library operations practices and principles.
- Excellent English communication skills, both oral and written, including spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
- Skilled in using a personal computer and office equipment.
- Ability to maintain good relations with the public and staff, demonstrating courtesy and tact.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written directives, work under pressure, handle multiple tasks, prioritize, organize work, and maintain a friendly demeanor.
