Department Summary The Facilities Planning, Design, and Construction (FPDC) team is central to campus transformation, focusing on community engagement, standards, accessibility, and meticulous project execution from concept to completion. Position Overview The University of North Texas Facilities Department seeks a Design Manager . Responsibilities include: Overseeing all project phases, coordinating with consultants and contractors, ensuring schedule and budget adherence. Preparing estimates, drawings, and specifications, under the supervision of the Campus Planning Manager. Leading a team of Project Designers and Student Design Assistants. Providing expertise for complex problem resolution and creative project solutions. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Engineering, or Interior Design, with five years of professional design experience, or equivalent experience and training. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong project management skills. Knowledge of safety and security precautions. Ability to design and prepare construction documents. Ability to analyze construction documents and codes. Preferred Qualifications Proficiency in AutoCAD, REVIT, SketchUp; experience managing medium to large construction projects; university setting experience; excellent communication and organizational skills; knowledge of building codes and OSHA regulations; strong customer service orientation. Licenses/Certifications Valid Texas driver’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days, with ability to drive university vehicles if required. Job Duties Managing in-house projects from estimates to construction documents. Coordinating with departments and utilizing project management software. Providing regular progress reports and documentation. Upholding core values of Service, Integrity, and Excellence. Ensuring safety and security in the workplace. Managing project phases, including coordination of consultants and contractors, ensuring specifications, schedule, and budget compliance.
