JOB TITLE: Technical Writer - R25-035
PROJECT OVERVIEW: VGI is seeking a Technical Writer to join our team. In this role you will perform as an individual contributor and team member focused on developing user guides, manuals, and process documents in support of development teams and the overall program operations. The ideal candidate will have experience absorbing and converting highly technical information into simple terms and language that people at all levels of the business can understand.
JOB DESCRIPTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Writes descriptive manuals and guides for complex subjects.
- Researches topics, writes documents and edits their work for publication.
- Prepares instruction manuals.
- Disseminates technical information in easy-to-understand language for a non-technical audience.
- Has technical accuracy in writing user documentation.
- Creates software documentation after a thorough collaboration with subject matter experts and technical staff.
- Helps other writers in creating documentation.
- Ability to take existing and potential content and improve it.
- Converts highly technical information in layman’s terms, explains the functionality of a product or service, and shares information among two or more parties within the organization.
- Prepares, maintains, and preserves software application documentation for various software applications, including program instructions, overviews, policies and procedures manuals, training manuals, and supplemental materials, as needed, ensuring that such policies are accurate, achieve their intended objective, and comply with state and federal requirements.
- Works with direct-assigned development teams, as well as with Customers and advisors, to develop, author, publish, and maintain program documentations
REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Security Clearance: TS/SCI w/poly
- 2+ years of recent and relevant experience as a technical writer or business analyst
- Ability to grasp highly technical details and system designs and break that information down into simple terms and language for non-technical consumers.
- Demonstrated experience working with technical teams and producing key documents for product delivery (i.e. user guides, manuals, release notes, etc.)
- Great verbal and written communication skills that foster unity and collaboration
- Self-starter who can identify documentation or process gaps and take the initiative to seek answers and information to help fill the void
DESIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience as a technical writer within a software development team
- Examples of technical artifacts created or maintained
- Experience creating document databases or organizational structures to facilitate change control and version management
- Experience with Jira, Confluence, GitLab and similar development and workflow management tools
- Demonstrable examples of helping standardize business documents, processes, and workflows as a means of continuous process improvement
