Job Description
The Visual Designer position plays an integral role in providing visual communication platforms for the Visual Merchandising Department within Universal Studios Hollywood. Their goal is to ensure stakeholders understand project direction through comprehensively illustrating project concepts. This role reports to the Visual Manager and produces work as required. This position works interdepartmentally based on projects.

Salary range: $70,000 - $80,000
Responsibilities include:
- Providing comprehensive visual platforms for design review & development discussions.
- Communicating concepts with stakeholders and team members to ensure approval prior to production.
- Creating visual studies/mockups for internal and external stakeholders, including 2D/3D renderings, façade design, technical packages, in-store visual elements, window design, fixture design, store floorplans, signage, graphic design, photographs, asset management.
- Providing high-quality overview photographs of new store builds and major floor sets.
- Collaborating with the Visual Merchandising Department to create training and merchandising guidelines and store templates.
- Maintaining an organized archive of visual assets.
- Conducting pre-production reviews at vendor facilities as needed.
- Attending trade shows, conventions, and benchmarking to stay current with industry trends; travel as needed.
- Identifying opportunities for new materials and technology considering costs, sustainability, and durability.
- Managing multiple projects simultaneously, prioritizing tasks, and ensuring timely, accurate delivery.
- Communicating effectively with vendors to ensure proper installation of visual projects.
- Supporting additional tasks as assigned by department leadership.
Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in visual design or equivalent.
- Proficiency with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, SketchUp, AutoCAD; portfolio required.
- Willingness to work weekends, holidays, and overnights as required.
Desired Characteristics:
- 2- or 4-year college degree in Visual Communications, Graphic Communications, or related arts program.
- Experience managing design projects from concept to completion.
- Experience with art direction, fabrication, and installations in the field.
- Knowledge of materials, paints, and finishing details.
- Understanding of visual communication in theme park or retail environments.
- Ability to multitask and delegate effectively.
- Creative, self-motivated, with leadership qualities.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to adapt to fast-paced, changing environments.
Additional Requirements:
- On-site presence at designated worksite.
- Travel as required.
