Instructor of Visual Art: Description and Responsibilities

The Instructor of Visual Art is responsible for teaching foundational artistic skills, understanding, and theory across multiple grade levels. The instructor will:

1. Work with fellow Art faculty to establish an appropriate skill acquisition sequence.
2. Teach students proper techniques using high-quality, artist-grade materials (including crayon, pastel, watercolor, pencil, pen, clay, wax, and more).
3. Assist in implementing Fine Art showcases, competitions, and the school's Fine Arts Night.
4. Model and promote an understanding of art history and foster a love and appreciation for the visual arts.
5. Establish and maintain a syllabus outlining goals, learning outcomes, and expected student achievements for the year.
6. Maintain grade books for all students, updating grades and comments biweekly or more often.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., BFA in Visual Arts) required. Teaching experience in a classical, Charlotte Mason, or Waldorf school is preferred. Extensive personal and/or professional experience working with children. Excellent rapport with students of all ages. Strong understanding of The Saint Constantine School’s educational ethos and values.
