The Role:
Plans, manages and directs the Packaging & Graphics group in research, innovation, technical support, training and also provides strategic direction on current and future research efforts. The Packaging & Graphics Manager is a trained research and development technical manager, responsible for managing the resources and actions of individuals working on packaging projects for all ACH product lines. They ensure communication and coordination between Project Manager, Operations, Co-Manufacturing, Marketing, Sales, along with the external/internal Graphic development. Additionally, the Packaging & Graphics Managers role is to maintain open communication with all ACH internal and external customers, and ensure priorities are set and agreed to which will meet ACH business needs. The Package & Graphics manager develops and promotes strategic plans within a program and then manages the department to fulfill strategic and operating objectives and is accountable for the professional development of people in the department along with the quality of technical work. This position reports to the VP of Product Innovation, Development & Quality
What You'll Do:
- Develops new packages by defining, initiating, planning and executing/commercializing packaging projects.
- Performs packaging tests by evaluating and approving new and revised packaging materials via laboratory tests.
- Coordinates, supervises and evaluates plant trials and shipping tests to ensure package/product performance.
- Issues and approves packaging specs: develop packaging material specs to enable effective package purchases and quality components.
- Develops cost reduced packages to provide productivity savings by working with purchasing, packaging material vendors and ACH plants to provide satisfactory cost-effective containers for ACH’s products.
- Provides plant packaging support to resolve packaging material related quality issues / shortages with packaging suppliers.
- Prepares annual packaging & graphics departmental operating & capital budgets.
- Accountable for the quality of the technical work of the department.
- Conducts audits of currently approved packaging materials at plants and in the field to ascertain performance.
- Evaluates competitive packages to keep abreast of innovations by other food or consumer product manufacturers.
- Maintains packaging industry & regulatory awareness by keeping up to date with applicable literature for compliance with new and existing packaging regulations.
- Maintains knowledge of packaging innovations via trade publications, professional organizations (iopp), seminars and packaging industry trade shows.
- Develops effective working relationships with Marketing and Purchasing to meet strategic goals.
- Acts as a liaison with Product Development, Regulatory, Quality and Food Safety to ensure packaging is consistent with ACH requirements.
- Manages innovation projects to support the NPD process and works with co-manufacturers.
- Supplies annual input to ABF on source reduction sustainability accomplishments.
- Conducts all other required job functions.
What You'll Need:
- BS/MS in Packaging
- 10 years experience in packaging development with a major food company or consumer products company. 5 + years’ experience as a manager of packaging development with direct reports.
- MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS project, Outlook, TOPS Packaging software, Database SAP(ie.: Lims spec system), Project Mgmt
- Technical knowledge in Packaging as demonstrated by college degree and years of commercial experience.
- The employee needs to be comfortable in manufacturing plant/packaging lab/warehouse on all shifts and the corporate office.
- Travel will be required – estimated 15%

Salary Range:
- Starting Salary Range: $162,100-205,065. This includes the starting base pay range. Exact compensation will vary based on candidates' qualifications, job related knowledge and experience and specific location.
- Variable Pay is included in compensation package yet not part of base salary range.
