Blue Ridge Community College is recruiting for a writing tutor. This is an approximate 20-hour per week position. This is a part-time wage position, limited to 1500 hours within a 12-month period, with no benefits. There is potential eligibility for educational assistance for BRCC classes and job-related training and/or certifications.
Job Duties
- Provide one-to-one, small group, and/or classroom tutoring services of exceptional quality on a walk-in or scheduled basis
- Integrate effective study and learning strategies, added to subject-area instruction
- Exhibit a positive attitude toward student efforts, and provide consistent feedback to students on progress
- Maintain accurate records of individual and group tutoring sessions
- Protect student confidentiality, at all times
- Provide coverage to the library circulation desk as needed
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's/Required Qualifications
- Final grade of B or higher from an accredited college or university in the class to be tutored
- Ability to effectively conduct tutoring sessions, both virtually and in person
- Dependability and responsiveness
- Desire to help students and to maximize their potential for academic progress
- Highest level of professionalism
- Ability to be creative in learning methodology
- Understanding and empathetic to student challenges
- Experience with Zoom or another video conferencing platform
- Tutoring or teaching experience
- Customer service experience
- Experience in an academic environment
- Familiarity with EAB Navigate
- Related experience, education or training
