What to Expect (Job Responsibilities): - Assist in researching, designing, developing, and testing interactive multimodal data visualizations - Conduct user research to understand user needs and inform design decisions - Synthesize research findings into actionable insights for the development team - Collaborate with scientific staff to preprocess and visualize large datasets - Propose and implement new tools or process improvements to enhance team efficiency
What is Required (Qualifications): - Currently enrolled in a U.S. college or university, majoring in computer science, HCI, data science, engineering, or a related discipline - Working knowledge of creating web-based interactives using JavaScript, HTML, CSS, etc. - Familiarity with UX research methodologies and user-centered development processes - Strong oral and written communication skills - Ability to prioritize and organize assignments effectively
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications): - Experience with JavaScript libraries such as React, Angular, and D3 - Familiarity with developing data visualizations using Python libraries like Matplotlib or Plotly - Experience with Unix and Windows operating systems, along with programming languages like C# or C++ - Knowledge of graphic design principles and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) - Passion for atmospheric and geosciences datasets
