Job Requirements The purpose of the Social Media Manager position is to inspire and rally our passionate health science communities both on and offline.

A key member of University Relations' Digital Communications team, this position will report to the Associate Director of Digital Marketing and work with a multidisciplinary team to build and execute an enterprise-wide social media editorial plan.

This role will create and curate content aimed at key audiences on social media, among others, while maintaining a consistent and meaningful brand message. In partnership with subject matter experts, the Social Media Manager will also identify, monitor and/or contribute to, or lead conversations on issues that intersect with UCSF’s areas of excellence.

The Social Media Manager will actively monitor and measure the impact of engagement efforts via Radian6 and other tools, and recommend adjustments as necessary. As a trusted liaison to UCSF’s partners, this position will also help “integrate and educate” about the overall social program. This includes communicating UCSF’s social media guidelines and being available to counsel partners on their social media efforts.

The role is responsible for the efficiency and effectiveness of the operations and processes in his/her area and requires excellent judgment, streamlined and professional communication, and quick turnaround in a fast-paced working environment. The ideal candidate will has a passion for exploring and sharing digital media, has a strong affinity for health, science and the UCSF mission, and should be a creative, critical thinker. Additional duties as assigned.

Bachelor’s degree and three years professional experience working with social media platforms, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Strong writing, editing and verbal communication
Genuine interest in education, health and science
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively to solve problems, often under challenging time constraints and conditions
Highly creative and entrepreneurial in concept development, and focused and disciplined in execution
Create original content and “tree shake” multimedia content form the other groups around campus to publish on multiple platforms daily
Manipulate assemble media using Photoshop, Final Cut Pro, and files in a variety of formats
Comfort with web/social analytics and ability to compile and report out
Identify additional opportunities to grow the UCSF engagement strategy
Be a visible voice and face of UCSF as needed online and at public events
This is both a service and creative team – ability to diagnose, steer, solve, assess different events, campaigns, etc for other groups and for UCSF as a whole
Help create and maintain a safe, appropriate and dynamic conversations and spaces online; active questioning listening and responding
Strong data-analysis skills and a passion for harnessing data to extract insights to drive program performance; fluency with performance metrics and ROI analysis
Success at establishing relationships that create productivity and community goodwill


UNIVERSITY RELATIONS/WEB COMMUNICATIONS & DIGITAL MARKETING
Web Communications & Digital Marketing leads overall web communications and digital marketing for UCSF, manages UCSF.edu and other UCSF primary websites, as well as UCSF’s primary social media channels, to raise the visibility and awareness of UCSF’s excellence in discovery, patient care and education, and to build community among internal audiences. In addition, the Digital Communications Marketing partners with UCSF’s Information Technology Services and other IT units across campus to strengthen UCSF web and digital services, facilitate access, and improve usability.
