About Our Company JOB PURPOSE AND RESPONSIBILITY

The Executive Director of Communications, Media Production Services, and Community Engagement has responsibility for implementing the district-wide Communications Plan, through the dissemination of news and information about the Austin Independent School District to the appropriate audiences, including the news media, campuses, and various public constituencies. Incumbent has responsibility for direction, supervision, and review of performance, and the coordination of activities of the employees of both the Communication Services and Media Production Services Division.

SKILL REQUIREMENTS

Incumbent must be able to work well under pressure, because multiple deadlines with short notice will exist, and to manage a team of public information, web page and media production employees, who often work independently on separate projects. Incumbent must have strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. Knowledge of Texas’ public education system, educational issues in general, as well as District policies and achievements are beneficial. Incumbent must have strong knowledge of both effective ways in which to disseminate public information and in which to engage in effective public relations. A broad understanding of the Austin community is essential. This position requires knowledge and skill in the use of social media and technology. Incumbent must also have excellent analytical skills, general working knowledge of video editing, graphics, and/or videography, as well as web page design and operations.

Employees in this position must be able to read, write, and speak/communicate in English in order to receive and to provide work-related information in a timely manner to other employees, supervisors, principals, school personnel, volunteers and where appropriate, visitors and students. Fluency in Spanish is beneficial.
