LAC Federal is seeking a Library Clerk to work on-site and support collection maintenance activities for a large federal library in Washington, D.C. As a Library Clerk, duties will range widely and will require working with diverse library materials. This is a full time, evening position from 11:30 am to 8:00 pm; Monday to Friday.Your Impact:Sorting, arranging, and transporting library materials to be shelvedBreaking down materials to include separating and sorting materials on book trucks according to call number rangesIdentifying materials requiring follow-up for collection stabilization and rehousingMaintaining detailed logs of activitiesInter-filing materials on bookshelvesShelf-reading and reviewing each shelf piece-by-pieceRefiling out-of-place items or routing them to the proper locationIdentifying problem materials per written proceduresWorking with the library’s automated circulation systemRequirementsYour Qualifications:High School diploma or equivalentAttention to detailPreferred knowledge of other languages than EnglishAbility to develop knowledge of standard Law library policies, procedures, and services related to one or more library functionsAbility to learn the general physical arrangement of the library and the location of library collections. Ability to understand the classification system required for accurate breaking down of materialsDemonstrated organizational skills and initiative to manage multiple tasks and deadlines, effectively respond to changing priorities, and work independentlyAbility to learn and follow complex procedures and policiesPhysical Requirements:Must be able to move from place to place within the location; lift, push/pull, hold/carry items weighing up to (35) poundsMust be able to stoop and lift materials from the ground and bottom shelvesAbility to push carts and trucks weighing up to 200 poundsAbility to work in cool and dusty environmentsBalancing on step ladders while pulling, moving, or re-shelving materials on the top shelvesThe above position description is not intended as, nor should it be construed as, exhaustive of all duties, responsibilities, skills, efforts, or working conditions associated with this job.
