Brevard CO. Bureau Reporter

WESH 2/CW18, the Hearst-Owned NBC affiliate in the Orlando-Daytona Beach-Melbourne DMA, is looking for a dynamic reporter ready to take charge, live and work near the beach, and win the day in Brevard County. You will be a self-starter who thrives in the fast-paced environment of daily news. Our bureau covers a diverse range of topics, from local politics to tourism and launches along the Space Coast. We are looking for a highly skilled individual eager to build relationships, contacts and sources. The successful candidate loves breaking news and is highly competitive. They will build on the WESH 2/CW18 brand in Brevard County and become the go-to person for viewers passing along story tips and looking for information. We value strong enterprise reporting and we’re looking for someone who finds the stories that will lead our newscasts. In addition to credibility, poise, and personality, we want to find this market’s next leader who isn’t afraid to ask the tough questions and hold those in power accountable. We need a versatile, enterprising go-getter who is fast, efficient, works well under tight deadlines and has excellent live reporting skills.  


  • Plan, gather and assemble stories on day-of news or special project assignments
  • Monitor daily arrest reports, plus track municipal and school district meetings
  • Work with a photographer to gather and edit compelling video and captivating sound
  • Coordinate with news managers and producers to develop stories that go beyond surface details, that accentuate unique enterprise angles, and have exclusive content
  • Works with producers in newscast production
  • Develop a network of sources who provide tips, early access to information, and allow the reporter to break stories of significance
  • Maintains high-depth knowledge of NASA and the commercial space program 
  • Embraces the importance of social media in cultivating ideas and engaging with viewers 
  • Will contribute pictures, video and text updates to mobile platforms throughout the day
  • Can juggle multiple stories and projects at once, demonstrates exceptional time-management skills by meeting all deadlines under extraordinary pressure
  • Unwavering journalistic integrity and ethical standards
  • Must live in Brevard County
  • Must demonstrate flexibility in schedule to cover launches and significant events

Experience Requirements

  • Past reporting experience required
  • Demonstrated ability to enterprise and uncover
  • Your demo reel should be indicative of your everyday work
  • Strong writing and storytelling skills
  • Ability to operate mobile transmission devices and use latest technology
  • Can work in all weather conditions and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Have a valid driver's license and a clear driving record
  • Ability to work varied shifts, including overnights and weekends
  • Can deal with the stresses and pressures of time-sensitive newscast production
  • Related military experience will be considered
