WISN-TV, the ABC affiliate in Milwaukee, WI has a full-time opening for an experienced Broadcast Operations Technician. The Operations Technician operates the broadcast control room and master control equipment. The Operations Technician will also be responsible for communicating effectively with the news department, as this is integral for a smooth outcome of newscasts. This position supports all station efforts in-house and on remote locations. 

 

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Work as needed in control room in technical positions (audio console, robotic camera, production switcher) for live and recorded television programs.
  • Master control operations.
  • Attention to details is imperative.
  • Maintaining on air operation to include running commercials, network and local programming as a master control operator.
  • Monitors multiple channels to ensure regulatory compliance and quality signals. 
  • Follow FCC monitoring and EAS procedures. 
  • Observing transmitters and taking readings 
  • Maintains program and transmitter logs. 
  • Executes, edits, updates, and appends automation playlists. 
  • Report equipment issues and transmission discrepancies.  
  • Basic multi-media computer skills and familiarity with current Internet technology including downloading of materials for promos and commercial client spots. 
  • Non-linear editing as needed.
  • Operate and tune in live shots for the newscast using microwave receivers, bonded cellular transceivers, and satellite receivers.
  • This position could have broadcast and news equipment maintenance and repairs responsibilities.
  • Other duties as assigned by the TV Engineering Management

 

Experience Requirements:   

  • The ideal candidate should have 3+ years of experience working as an operations technician at a commercial television station with extensive experience in operating a wide variety of broadcast equipment.
  • Related military experience will be considered.
  • Computer literacy is mandatory.
  • Must have a solid background in operation of broadcast television systems and equipment.
