TITLE: MAGNETIC RECORDING HEAD DESIGN ENGINEER

FLSA STATUS: EXEMPT

REPORTS TO: SR. DIRECTOR, READ HEAD DEVELOPMENT

SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Sr. Director of Read Head Development, the Magnetic Recording Head Design Engineer is responsible for the magnetic design of read head design, conducting detailed analysis of characterization data, and performing failure analysis on newly developed products and recommending corrective action. This position is located in Milpitas, California.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Researches, develops, and delivers next generation read head designs for magnetic recording heads
  • Develops strategies for design integration using detailed modeling, data, and statistical analysis
  • Integrates the fundamental properties of nanoscale dimensionality and magnetic recording head phenomena into product designs
  • Conducts detailed analysis of characterization data and presents findings
  • Conducts failure analysis on newly developed processes or products and recommends corrective action if necessary
  • Designs and conducts experiments, analyzes data, and develops recommendations for improving the performance or reducing cost based on test results
  • Develops and delivers appropriate timeline and process for integrating new products into the manufacturing line
  • Partners with other groups and departments, including process and manufacturing engineering to develop and deliver products and programs
  • Creates reports, charts, or graphs on an ad-hoc or routine basis
  • Responds to inquiries from other team members, managers, or departments
  • Adheres to all safety policies and procedures as required
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level*

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or Applied Physics and/or equivalent relevant experience
  • Three years of hands-on experience working with spintronic devices, magnetic recording heads, hard disk drives, or semiconductor devices
  • Experience in magnetic modeling, electronic devices, and device characterization
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Applications

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Strong knowledge of magnetic modeling and magnetic recording phenomena
  • Knowledge of magnetic recording head, hard disk drive, or semiconductor industry principles, practices, and techniques
  • Knowledge of wafer fabrication processing techniques, including process characterization and integration techniques and practices
  • Knowledge and ability to use Microsoft Office applications to create spreadsheets, Word documents, and presentations
  • Knowledge and ability to create models, perform statistical analysis, and device design
  • Able to analyze data, create various reports, and recommend corrective action
  • Able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with all levels of contractors, consultants, employees, and management
  • Able to work productively and collaboratively with all levels of employees and management
  • Able to comply with all safety policies and procedures
  • Demonstrated analytical and critical thinking skills

    The annual base salary for this full-time position is between $96,655.20-$142,140.00 + bonus target + benefits. Within the range the individual pay may differ depending on additional factors including job responsibilities, job related knowledge, skills, abilities, education, and experience. The annual base pay range shown is subject to change and may be modified periodically.

    WORKING CONDITIONS:
    The Magnetic Recording Head Design Engineer works primarily in an office environment from Monday thru Friday. The schedule may be altered from time-to-time to meet business or operational needs; may travel from building-to-building as needed. Spends a majority of time in a seated position, but stands and walks, bends and twists; performs various fine grasping movements; operates a computer and enters information using a keyboard, operates a telephone, and other office equipment; may occasionally be required to push, pull, or lift up to 10 pounds.
