Oxide Games, headquartered in Timonium, Maryland, is a PC game development studio specializing in building AAA real-time strategy games. A relatively new player in the industry, Oxide has quickly made a name for itself with its ambitious projects and state-of-the-art technology. The team is dedicated to pushing the boundaries of gaming by using our proprietary Nitrous engine. The studio is staffed by a team of industry veterans and passionate game developers committed to delivering unique gaming experiences. The studio is working on Ara: History Untold, a high-profile strategy game for XBOX Games.

We are looking for an innovative and energetic General Manager to continue growing our studio. As GM, you will report directly to the Board of Directors, primarily focusing on developing and achieving Oxide’s strategic and operational objectives. Additionally, you will work closely with Oxide’s President to assist with the leadership and management of Oxide’s creative team.

In this role, you will…

Leadership & Management

  • Work with the company Founders and Board to set and implement the company’s strategic vision.
  • Manage and oversee the work of the founding members and other employees.
  • Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment.
  • Ensure that project milestones and objectives are met.
  • Ensure adherence to the studio’s KPIs at the leadership level that tracks overall project quality, delivery, financial status, and risks.
  • Lead change management strategies for studio initiatives through executive communications, town halls, reviews, workshops, or other inclusive methods.
  • Uphold and promote the mission, vision, and values through all levels of the studio and externally to players.

Operational Oversight

  • Work with the Chief Operations Officer (COO) to efficiently manage budgets and allocate resources.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and legal regulations.
  • Implement process improvements to enhance productivity and quality that include transparent, predictable, and value-added processes for quality

Business Development

  • Identify and pursue growth opportunities for Oxide.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key industry partners.
  • Represent the studio at industry events and conferences.
  • Drive revenue growth and profitability.

Talent Management

  • Set clear goals for the studio and hold team members accountable for deliverables.
  • Recognize and reward employees for solid performance.
  • Partner with Human Resources to recruit, develop, and retain talent.
  • Conduct performance reviews and manage team dynamics.
  • Address any issues or conflicts within the team.
  • Work with the company’s Founders, who are full-time employees.

What types of education and experience do you need for this role?

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Game Development, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in a managerial role within the gaming industry.
  • Proven track record of successful project management and team leadership.
  • Strong understanding of game development processes and market trends.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate with all levels of an organization
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills with a preference for working collaboratively with other leaders when appropriate
  • Strong drive and commitment toward obtaining results
  • Ability to maintain a sense of urgency while remaining detail-oriented
  • A passion for gaming with extensive knowledge of the industry and trends
