HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE ROLE:

1) You'll help to set and oversee divisional and university-wide style guidelines for a variety of media; news stories, press releases, magazine articles, speeches, presentations, reports, web content, advertising copy, newsletters, magazines, social media posts, and promotional text. You'll be an instrumental part of the Student Affairs editorial leadership team and will have managerial responsibility by developing and enacting an editorial development strategy with the division's department communicators.2) You'll provide creative ideas and support productivity goals by serving as a leader and mentor in the implementation of an integrated marketing approach to communication projects through our project management system.3) You'll be responsible for overseeing aspects of editorial content at a high level, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and alignment with the division's and university's mission.4) You'll write and copy-edit a wide range of communications; including, but not limited to news stories, press releases, electronic newsletters, presentations, scripts, reports, web content development, and promotional copy.5) You'll be helping to train professional employees and will help maintain the editorial content calendar across communicators; ensuring a high quality of work and timely delivery of services.6) You'll collaborate with various stakeholders to create compelling and informative content that resonates with students, faculty, and the broader community.7) You'll be maintaining joint partnerships within the Division of Student Affairs and will be serving on committees and working on teams as needed or desired.8) You'll be reporting directly to the Assistant Director of Communications for Student Affairs but will also be working cross-collaboratively with various stakeholders.9) You'll be offered a base compensation package between$55,000-$60,000 along with a comprehensive benefits package that includes health insurance, paid leave, retirement, tuition assistance, VT discounts, and so much more!

You'll be joining the Student Affairs Communications team; a department of creative professionals who enjoy enhancing the student experience through various marketing and communication mediums.

Required Qualifications

A degree in communications, writing, English, or a related field or the equivalent combination of related training and experience.

Considerable years of professional writing and editing experience that includes writing and editing reports, web content, press releases, articles, newsletters, and promotional copy.

Experience writing in AP Style.

Demonstrated excellence in writing and communication skills, including proper grammar and spelling.

Excellent proofreading skills.

Proficiency in word processing, internet and web-based research, and electronic modes of communication.

Demonstrated experience managing multiple priorities and working independently in a professional environment with minimal supervision.

Preferred Qualifications

Supervision and personnel management experience.

Public relations or marketing experience in an educational environment.

Experience using project management systems and social media management tools.

Knowledge of marketing strategy and current best practices using inclusive language.

Experience with content and project management systems.

The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check.
