About the Position

The Office of Technology and Communications (OTC) is looking for a skilled and experienced user researcher to join our team. This temporary role will be focused on conducting a remote usability test and recommending evidence-based approaches to improve the City's public website, StPaul.gov.

As the primary researcher on this project, you will work closely with a senior researcher to manage, plan, and facilitate a remote usability test with community members. The successful candidate will have a solid understanding of system usability test methods, tools, and techniques.

This is a unique opportunity that will offer the successful candidate with the opportunity to work directly with community members to improve delivery of government services.

Primary ResponsibilitiesLead planning, design, and execution of a usability test to identify research needs and align the test plan with service objectives.Manage research activities, such as recruiting and screening participants, scheduling sessions, and writing test plans and scripts.Analyze user behavior and the business context to define website performance benchmarks that satisfy end users and meet agency business goals.Develop and present a compelling report of findings with clear recommendations and evidence-based approaches to improve website usability and service delivery.Location and HoursThis position is hybrid and will be performed mostly remotely with the possibility of working on-site at the City Hall Annex at 25 West 4th Street, Saint Paul, MN 55102. Work hours will be Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with flexibility.

A Bachelor's Degree in Technical Communication, Statistics, Urban Planning, Economics, Political Science, Information Technology, Mathematics, Geography, Sociology, Earth Sciences, Natural Resources and Design or related field.

OR

An Associate's Degree in Technical Communication, Statistics, Urban Planning, Economics, Political Science, Information Technology, Mathematics, Geography, Sociology, Earth Sciences, Natural Resources and Design or related field; and two years of related experience working with data collection instruments for projects, programs, and policies; conducting research, collecting, compiling, and basic analysis of data.

UX Certification from a professional development program or bootcamp (Prime Digital Academy, Nielsen Normal Group, Interaction Design Foundation, ) can be used in combination with two years of related experience evaluating website usability.How to Apply
