DescriptionOur client's Transportation Practice serves State Departments of Transportation, municipalities, counties, and private industries across the country. From rural roads to complex urban interchanges, tollways and long-span bridges, our innovative and cost-effective solutions help improve mobility and safety on our nation’s roads, highways, bridges, trails, and rail systems. They also provide strategic consulting services to help their clients communicate their vision and secure the funding and support that are critical to their success. Their comprehensive services include design, design-build, construction management, environmental planning, feasibility studies, ITS, permitting, program management, right-of-way acquisition, signaling & lighting, stakeholder engagement, strategic consulting, sustainable design, traffic analysis, transportation enhancement, and utility coordination and relocation.
The Transportation Designer will assist in various phases of planning and detailed designs, report preparation, specifications, and preparation of construction plans and environmental documentation as part of a project team. This position will work on various projects with a diverse portfolio of project types and clients.Assist in designing various transportation projects including roads, bridges, storm drainage systems, storm water management facilities, water and sanitary sewer utility design, sediment and erosion control, traffic control, and airports.Assist with a full range of drawing production work including problem analysis, design layout and calculations on nonroutine assignments of substantial variety and complexity.Assist with a variety of transportation assignments using prescribed methods and standard techniques including drawing sequence and presentation and refining rough sketches.Assist with initial rough designs or sketches and mark-ups on ongoing projects.Assist with analyzing reports, maps, drawings, tests, and other topographical and geologic data to plan and design projects.Interpret and apply design codes and specifications related to design requirements.Complete and review design drawings following project criteria within scope, budget, and schedule.Compute earthwork volume calculations for excavation, embankment, dredging, and upland site grading.Organize and maintain all revisions of project drawings, plot files and project-related information in a logical and well-structured manner.All other duties as assigned.
QualificationsAssociate or technical degree and a minimum of three to five years of experience in Transportation
with an emphasis in roadway or bridge drafting.Understanding of design software such as:
MicroStation
(must-have),
Open Roads Designer ,
Inroads , and
Geopak
to develop design deliverables.Knowledge of
roadway design . Creating and maintaining alignments (horizontal and vertical).Understanding of 3D modeling and template usage.Ability to work collaboratively with others (Project Managers, Engineers, and Designers) in a multi-disciplined project team environment to resolve design or drawing issues as appropriate and to accomplish objectives.Excellent written & verbal communication skills.Strong attention to detail, team collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
