Position Summary

As a Web Developer II, you will be responsible for utilizing PHP and JavaScript designing, developing, and maintaining web applications and websites. You will work closely with a team of developers, designers, project managers, and stakeholders to create functional and visually appealing online experiences. The ideal candidate thrives on taking a project from planning through launch, and on-going optimization, working collaboratively as part of a cross functional team, helping ensure the creation of exceptional user experiences. On-site in Waterloo, IA (potential for hybrid opportunities)

Work Hours Classification:

Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm CST additional hours as needed for project deadlines

Responsibilities

Write clean, fast PHP code:

Develop, test, and deploy robust and scalable web applications using PHP and related technologies that adheres to industry standards and best practices.Produce detailed specifications:

Clearly document requirements and specifications for software development.Troubleshoot and maintain core product software and custom web applications:

Identify and resolve issues, perform testing, and ensure optimal functionality.Collaborate with the team:

Work closely with cross-functional teams to define project requirements, implement solutions that meet business objectives, and deliver successful projects within the given timeline.Follow industry best practices:

Stay up to date with the latest trends and techniques in PHP development.Contribute throughout the development lifecycle:

Participate in all phases, from initial specification to testing and deployment.Perform Code Reviews:

Participate in code reviews to ensure code quality and adherence to coding standards.Provide guidance and support to junior developers : Work with team members by sharing best practices and helping them to resolve technical challenges.Position Qualifications

Education / Experience:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field3 years of experience in a Web Developer or Software Developer RoleMust comply with continuing education per company, regulatory, contractual, and accreditation requirementsRequirements:

Proficient in PHP, JavaScript, HTML5, JQuery, MySQL, JSON, XML, APIs, security, and data protection.Understanding of open-source projectsStrong understanding of object-oriented programming principles.Strong understanding of relational database management systems (e.g., MySQL, MongoDB) and ability to write efficient SQL queries.Experience with integrating third-party APIs.Experience using advanced software libraries and frameworks such as Laravel, Symfony, and BootstrapPassion for design and coding practicesUnderstanding of GIT source control.Excellent problem-solving skills.Must be detail oriented and work easily with resources at all levels.Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines.Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.Must be able to collaborate with various teams & work on short timelines.Work successfully in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment.Ability to handle multiple priorities without compromising quality.Understand and advocate industry best practices and the reasons for using them.Physical Requirements:

Operation of office equipment and using technology efficiently such as computers, phones, misc. office equipment.Visual abilities to include reading, distance vision and peripheral vision.Moving throughout the VGM facilities when needed.
