This position is located at the RTS Operations Center in Huntsville, Alabama.

Essential Functions

Support the Reagan Test Site (RTS) Operations Center as a VDI EngineerWork with a team supporting mission initiatives in a secure, isolated computing environmentWork with peers, internal customers, and management to create a highly available, resilient, and standardized IT infrastructureInstall, maintain, and support virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) solutions based on VMware Horizon 8+Configure and optimize VDI environment to ensure performance, scalability, and reliability of mission critical assetsDevelop and maintain documentation, technical designs, deployment guides, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the VDI environmentsEnsure capacity planning and resource optimization are continually performedMonitor the VDI environments to ensure availability, performance, and security compliance are all metTroubleshoot issues that arise as well as look for issues proactivelyMaintain a secure computing environment, including adherence to a backup schedule, patching of all systems, and applying applicable STIG settingsMaintain a regular and predictable work scheduleEstablish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, and within the wider RGNext business unitsMaintain hardware lifecycle as it relates to the VDI environment by deploying replacement systems in a timely fashionPerform root cause analysis and resolution for hardware and software issuesOther duties as assignedRequired Skills

Strong verbal and written communicationStrong documentation and organizationalStrong organization and project managementWhile this position is an individual contributor, ability to interact effectively with team members cross-functionally is essentialNetwork troubleshooting skills, with NSX experience a plusKnowledge of and troubleshooting skills with VMware vSphere 7+ and Horizon 7+Required Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology or a related technical field, or, equivalent combination of education and experienceFive (5) years of Systems Administration or direct IT related experience with VMware vSphere and/or Horizon productsDemonstrated ability to effectively:

Design, install, configure and maintain a VDI environmentIn-depth understanding of how to create, manage, and deploy hardened and optimized Linux and Windows VMs through HorizonExperience with storage technologies, including vSAN and traditional SANsCreate, manage, and troubleshoot applications delivered via AppVolumesExperience with VMware DEM and handling user profile information across multiple sitesUnderstanding of how to secure virtual machines to DISA STIG requirements

Experience with NVIDIA GRID preferredExperience with scripting languages such as PowerShell, preferredExperience with VMware vSphere 8+, preferredMust have and maintain an active CompTIA Security+, CISSP, or similar certification meeting DoD 8140.01 / DoD 8570.01 baseline certification for IAT Level IIMust have and maintain an active VMware Certification (VCAP-DCV, VCAP-DTM, or VCP-DTM, etc.) Server+, or similar certification to meet DoD 8570.01-M certifications required for the applicable operating system and/or security related tools/devices for this position to meet the IAT Level II requirementsMust apply knowledge and experience with standard Cyber Security concepts, practices, and proceduresAdditional Eligibility Qualifications

The flexibility to work occasional non-duty hours or on weekends to support specific project or mission requirementsMust be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship
