Job Summary

The Getty Research Institute (GRI) seeks a full-time Library Assistant III to work as a member of the Circulation team. Reporting to the Manager of Circulation, the Library Assistant III's primary duties are; managing the book digitization preparation workflow, which includes working from selected lists of special collections materials, pulling titles, assessing materials for digitization, and updating lists post-digitization, and collection maintenance "end processing", which includes marking, housing, repairing, and evaluating the condition of library materials. The Library Assistant III will work in a team-based environment but also under little to no supervision. The Library Assistant III will work on some additional circulation tasks including pulling, sorting, and shelving books, charging and discharging materials, and editing online records. The Getty Library uses the Ex-Libris suite of hosted products: Alma, Primo, and Rosetta. The Library Assistant III may work on occasion at the Library's Annex location in Valencia, CA.The Getty Research Institute is dedicated to furthering knowledge and advancing awareness of the visual arts and their various histories through its expertise, ongoing collecting program, public programs, institutional partnerships, exhibitions, publications, digital services, and residential scholars' programs. Collection maintenance and end processing of general collection materials

Selection and assessment process for special collections book digitizationMay assist with special collections end processingMay assist and resolve moderately complex problems for staff and library usersMay assist in processing, caring for, and reformatting collectionsUses various library software applications to execute moderately complex transactionsMaintains the general collections stacksAssists with the ongoing tasks associated with the circulation of materials including pulling, sorting, and reshelving books and serialsCheck materials in and out using the Alma library systemStaffs a Library public service deskQualifications

Bachelor's degree in art history or related discipline preferredMinimum 3 years related experienceSome supervisory and training experience preferredKnowledge, Skills and Abilities

Strong communication skills and ability to interact with library patronsStrong organizational skillsExceptional attention to detailFamiliarity in at least one foreign language preferredExperience with industry standard software suites as appropriate to assigned dutiesExperience with library circulation systems, bibliographic databases, and library specific software application preferredAbility to handle rare and unique materials with careExperience handling fragile or brittle materials preferredPhysical activity for extended periods at various times throughout the day including lifting library materials weighing up to 40 pounds and pushing heavy book cartsAbility to climb industrial ladders required to page and shelve from the collections
