The University Police Department is accepting internal applications for the position of Police Communications Operator Lead. Under general supervision, this position performs al duties associated with Police Communications Operator, as well as additional responsibility to train other communications personnel; assist in clerical tasks associated with the communications center; assist with the development of formal training and the development of training and operations manuals for the communications Unit. This position functions as a lead worker providing support and assistance in the administration and operations of the central communications center. Two positions are available.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Will perform the general duties of a Police Communications Operator.

• In collaboration with the unit supervisor and commanding officer, prepare and conduct training for the communications center; develop and maintain training programs.

• Conduct training evaluations of communications operations, systems, and practices and make recommendations to the unit supervisor and commanding officer.

• Perform quality control reviews of activities; assist in the planning and development of enhancements to central communications equipment and operations.

• Review work to ensure compliance with MILES, and NCIC requirements; perform quality control inspections of all CJIS/METERS/NCIC computer entries and related files.

Qualifications and Skills

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• Three years of experience as a PCO.

• Knowledge of emergency communications practices and procedures. Skill in the operation of assigned communication equipment.

• In obtaining essential information in emergency situations; in situations and relaying information; accurate, quick keyboarding skills, and the ability to read, write and speak clearly and effectively.

Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.

Salary and Benefits

$46,000 annually or higher for regular employees and full University benefits that includes annual leave, up to 15 holidays, personal and sick days; excellent health, life, and retirement plans; and tuition remission.
