Department Summary:

MITRE's User Experience, Visualization, and Decision Support department is on the hunt for a proactive engineer who can ingeniously design and develop user experiences to address our sponsor’s unique challenges. We are looking for an innovative problem-solver who can not only comprehend and translate user needs but also act as a bridge between design and engineering, utilizing the latest technologies to deliver the ultimate user experience.

Roles & Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be expected to:

Lead and provide technical guidance to small multidisciplinary teams, including other User Experience Engineers.

Collaborate closely with human factors engineers, UX designers, researchers, project leaders, and sponsors to create software prototypes using current front-end technologies and best practices.

Advocate for the end-user, ensuring user-centered design principles are consistently applied throughout the software development cycle.

Provide consulting guidance to MITRE teams and sponsors, analyzing software implementation, architecture, and performance.

Lead the design and development of user interfaces for our software and web applications, incorporating user research and usability testing to gather insights into user needs and behaviors.

Develop wireframes, mockups, and prototypes to effectively communicate design ideas, while collaborating with cross-functional teams, including software engineers and product managers, to ensure our products meet user needs.

Develop and maintain design systems and user interface guidelines, generating research and initiative proposals.

Mentor junior UX engineers and designers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

Basic Qualifications:

An advanced degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, HCI, UX Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field and 8+ years applicable software development experience.

Must be a US citizen capable of obtaining and maintaining a US government clearance.

A minimum of 5 years of experience in UX design or a related role, with a proven track record in designing, developing, and prototyping user interfaces (UIs) using user-centered design principles.

Proficiency in JavaScript, HTML, CSS, D3, JavaScript Frameworks such as Angular, Vue, React, and/or similar libraries.

Expertise in design software such as Sketch, Adobe XD, or Figma.

Experience with user research methods and usability testing.

Strong interpersonal skills, coupled with excellent verbal and written communication abilities.

A git repository or portfolio showcasing your UX design work, demonstrating your creativity and problem-solving skills.

This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference given to qualified candidates holding an active clearance.

A Master's degree is preferred.

Experience with qualitative and quantitative UX research design, development, analysis, and presentation

Advanced experience with visualization tools and libraries

Experience conducting user interviews and requirements gathering

Experience with game design principles and/or development

Mentoring or tutoring experience

Entrepreneurial, innovative spirit
