Mid-Level Lighting Designer

Overview:This job listing seeks a Lighting Designer to join a highly collaborative and creative architectural lighting design firm. The ideal candidate should have at least five years of experience in lighting design, a strong understanding of AutoCAD and 3D modeling software, and excellent organizational and communication skills.

The responsibilities of the Senior Lighting Designer include completing all phases of project lighting design, overseeing junior designers’ work, preparing presentations for clients, and overseeing the construction of the lighting installation. Qualifications:*The role of Lighting Designer requires special knowledge and skills, typically acquired through direct work experience.Minimum 5 years of work experience with an understanding of lighting design across architectural, interior, and landscape design projects.Ability to direct and lead staff and crew in lighting projectsExperience with physical model-makingProficiency in AutoCAD Developed skills in 3D modeling software (Revit/Rhino)Advanced knowledge in Adobe Suite: Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat, MS Office, Google Suite, and other Management Software Programs (including timesheet management)Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and superb ability to multi-task.Strong sensibility and appreciation for design communicationTime management skills and the ability to work on multiple projects.

Responsibilities:*The lighting Designer duties and responsibilities shall include:Completing all phases of project lighting design, starting from the original conception to the final phasesDirecting and reviewing the work of Junior Lighting Designers and Lighting InternsProvide lighting design solutions appropriate to a client brief, budget, and relevantstandards.Attend client and design team meetings, sometimes involving national and/orinternational travel.Prepare presentations to clientsDevelop lighting design solutions (i.e. engineering exercise) – lighting calculations, research of fixture alternatives, review of fixture samples, construction of temporary mockupsOversee the documentation of the lighting design via CAD layouts, lighting details, lightfixture schedules, lighting control specificationsPlan and execute lighting mockups as needed throughout the projectReview cost estimates of project lighting specifications and adjust lighting design tomeet the owner’s budget.Review the construction progress of lighting installation at the project site and issue fieldreports to the design team.Supervise final aiming of light fixtures and lighting controls programming.
