Booking Agent for Podcasts and Speeches

Keller Media, Inc., Remote Work, CA USA

Salary: This role offers a competitive base salary of $45,000-$48,000 per year plus generous per-podcast placement bonuses plus escalating commissions on all the speeches you book. Expected annual income ~$80,000-$150,000.

Salary min: $80,000.00

Salary max: $150,000.00

Level: Experienced

Duration: Full Time

As a booking agent, your job will be to get our talented clients (authors, speakers, thought leaders) as many podcast interviews and paid speaking engagements as possible.

To achieve this, you will prospect in our ever-growing database of potential meeting planners (the people who hire speakers); make and maintain contact; come to understand the kinds of speaker(s) they like, want, and need for their upcoming event(s); make notes on their dates and the outcome of your calls with them; and follow up as guided by that meeting planner's preferences and interests. We are currently primarily focused in the K-12 education, franchise, environmental sustainability, and corporate arenas, although this is subject to change based on the talent we’re representing/promoting.

You will also prospect in our clean database of podcast hosts to match the content and caliber of any podcast/show with the content and caliber of our client, their work, and their developmental stage as an author/speaker in the USA.

You will help to maintain and grow the relationships with podcast hosts and meeting planners, and guide each placement from first contact to completion.

For speaking engagements, you will negotiate the fees and other terms (with ample support until you get the hang of it), coordinate the dates, and guide the contract through generation to signature completion.

You will help update contact and other data as needed, either by doing it yourself in the CRM or by providing very clear notes to an admin person.

You’ll need a basic working knowledge of who our clients are and what they can do in front of a microphone.  To see if this work would appeal to you, this is a sampling of our current list of author-speakers:  one of the nation’s leading child psychologists; a preeminent expert on sustainable energy; an award-winning author/speaker whose specialty is how people can have more energy in life and at work; a former lt. general in the Army who was a leader in Iraq; a distinguished Swiss professor whose groundbreaking work has significantly reduced the incidence of second suicide attempts; two of the biggest name speakers in the franchise industry; a globally renowned author whose work is on cultivating a more flexible mind; a former commercial airline pilot who speaks about minimizing risk in the transportation, healthcare, and hospitality industries; a former high level ad agency executive who consults mega-corporations on how to increase their desirability as workplaces; a woman who consults major US corporations how to use their intuition for business purposes; more. (Wow!)

Requirements:

We are looking for a full-time Sales Agent to work remotely.

STRONGLY PREFERRED: Minimum of TWO years experience pitching any kind of talent in the publishing, media, advertising, marketing, publicity, speaking, or events industry.

  • Nearly impeccable English language skills - written and oral
  • You have a quick mind. You can deftly guide the meeting planner or podcast host/producer to help them choose the perfect person/people to present at their next live or virtual event, or to be a guest on their podcast. When applicable, you will help them realize that it is cost effective for them to book more than one of our talented people at a time.
  • You follow current events well enough to be aware of what’s hot, what’s relevant, and what’s topical, and are able to clearly describe how our speaker/authors' content dovetails with those current events to help make their show or event be more compelling to their audience.
  • Basic working knowledge of Microsoft 365
  • Basic social media skills (Can you look up how many followers someone has? Can you find an employee at a specific company on LinkedIn?)
  • It will help if you have some experience with a CRM. PLEASE tell us which one(s) in your cover email.
  • You have an engaging, dynamic, and outgoing personality.
  • You are not resistant to the occasional Zoom call with a prospect or a client.
  • When it is useful, you can be tenacious, persuasive, and persistent in the nicest possible way – on the phone and/or by email.
  • Professional phone presence and comfort/joy when making cold calls.
  • You accept that general record keeping in a cloud-based CRM is essential to being part of a great sales team. Even if you don’t love details, you can keep your records up to date. We use Pipedrive.com. Bonus points if you already know how to use that software.
  • Good enough with details to send a request to our admin for a copy of that author’s book be sent to the podcast host or meeting planner; to confirm that it was received; and to follow up to close the booking.
  • You are self-motivated, ethical, organized, and can work well independently or as part of a small, supportive, collaborative team.
  • Low need for supervision – you’re responsible, driven, and once you understand the system, you get your stuff done.
  • Strong sense of urgency, driven by bonuses, the ability to prioritize your own tasks, and will take initiative.

Company Description

Since 1989, Keller Media has been helping talented thinkers share their wisdom with the world in the form of books, speeches, courses, and media appearances.  Keller Media sells nonfiction books to publishers; books its authors into paid speaking engagements; and trains people with good ideas to excel as authors and speakers.

We have been responsible for more than 2,000 rights deals worldwide, including 18 New York Times bestselling books and 11 international bestsellers.

There are more than 4 million copies of Keller Media clients’ books in print worldwide.

Publishers prefer authors who speak – because they sell a lot more books; and meeting planners prefer speakers who are also authors with traditional publishing houses, because their content has been vetted at the highest level and they usually have a large, aggregate fan base.

We are now going to support our clients even more by adding a podcast promotion to our offering. You will benefit from being at the forefront of this foray.

We are based near Los Angeles. Although we are open to the right person located anywhere in the world, you'll need to be active during regular business hours in the USA. Because we are a close-knit, wholly remote team, you will discover that we welcome your creativity, personality, innovation, and fresh ideas.

This role offers a competitive base salary of $45,000-$48,000 per year plus generous per-podcast placement bonuses plus escalating commissions on all the speeches you book. Predicted annual income $80,000-$150,000.

We are good people who are helping other good people do good things for the world. You will have the opportunity to meet some of the most interesting thinkers in the world and help them spread their message.

HOW TO APPLY:

>> Please do not call us about this job! Email applications only. <<

Send a well-written, spell-checked cover email along with your resume in Word or .PDF format.  Tell us why you think this particular job is a good fit for you, what types of talent you’ve sold/booked before, and most important: pitch us on why you’re the right candidate.

Tell us if you have experience using a CRM, and which one(s) and for how long - or that you love learning new software.

Make certain that your resume is accurate – we will check everything if we proceed with you, and eventually we will run a standard background check.

We welcome charming human beings with integrity, regardless of their age or identification with any race, gender, sexual orientation, or other preferences.

We will strive to reply to everyone within 3-5 business days. Please do not take our response time/lack thereof as a test of your sales skills if you don’t hear back within that time, and please don't call to check on your application status.

We are looking to build a great working relationship with the right person  for a long time to come.  Together, we will help to broadcast our clients' empowering messages and thus make the world a better place for all of us.
