ABOUT THE CAMPAIGN FINANCE BOARD
The New York City Campaign Finance Board manages New York City’s small donor democracy program and educates and engages voters via NYC Votes. The CFB has enjoyed a tremendous arc of progress over its 30-year history, and our updated flagship small donor democracy program is the centerpiece of this progress.
We eliminate barriers to participation by providing access to the resources New Yorkers need to vote or run for office and amplify the voices of small donors with New York City’s small donor democracy program.

THE DIVISION/UNIT
The Marketing and Digital Communications unit leads the top-level marketing and communications strategy for the CFB and creates the strategy behind all public-facing materials that directly engage and serve the needs of five million New Yorkers in thirteen languages.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The New York City Campaign Finance Board is hiring an Associate Director of Digital Communications with 3-5 years of experience to report directly to the Director of Marketing and Digital Communications in the Public Affairs division. This is an exciting new role responsible for executing the agency’s digital, social, and video strategy while leading and growing a team of digital experts.
- Develop and lead the execution of a digital marketing strategy that is aligned with and supportive of the strategic plans for the agency, the Public Affairs division, and the unit.
- Implement an expansive digital strategy that focuses on how to grow and deepen the Campaign Finance Board’s focus on underserved communities and priority audiences.
- Lead a multichannel digital strategy that can scale down to meet the needs of small audience populations and scale up to align with broader agency reach.
- Advise both social and video teams on mission driven project alignment, focusing on in-language creative and video concepting for key agency milestones.
- Execute established marketing best practices across the unit to align team members and projects and ensure they are impact driven and measurement focused.
- Lead the agency forward by adapting to the ever-shifting landscape of digital content, developing agency strategy for channel expansion.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS
- Extensive understanding of creative marketing based on years of working at like public agencies and/or the consumer landscape.
- Ability to successfully manage a team of 5-10 direct reports, with experience building, leading and expanding a team of creatives.
- Excellent project management skills, with the ability to multitask across various marketing channels and creative types (like static posts, video, paid ads, organic posts, influencer briefs).
- Experience successfully collaborating across teams and team members who hold a wide variety of skills and job responsibilities.
- Good understanding of how creative information can be shared in a wide variety of ways to reach a diverse set of audience parameters.
- Willingness to work off-site and occasionally on weekends during marketing events (including parades, block parties, voter registration drives) and experience coordinating in-person marketing activations (including experiential marketing.)
- Experience working with languages other than English in any marketing capacity.
- Good copywriting and editing skills and understand how to write in plain language to make complicated topics like Campaign Finance and elections easily understandable.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Functional knowledge of any language other than English, preferably Spanish, Cantonese, or Mandarin.
- Experience working on multilingual marketing/advertising campaigns across a variety of marketing channels.
- Strong video concepting background, with the ability to lead ideation for explainer and creative videos.
- Previous experience managing a large team of content creators.
- Working knowledge of SEO and web UX best practices.
- Experience working with paid vendors on large projects with multiple stakeholders.
- Understanding of governmental culture, campaign finance, political campaigns, and/or good government organizations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college including or supplemented by at least twelve-semester credits (or the equivalent of twelve-semester credits) in accounting, auditing, business or public administration, computer science, economics, finance, statistics, graphic design, personnel or human resources administration, user experience design, or a closely related area of study and one year of satisfactory full-time experience in accounting, auditing (including compliance or investigative auditing), business or public administration, business analysis, computer science, database administration, economics, finance, fiscal or economic management or research, statistics, graphic design, personnel or human resources administration, user experience design, or a closely related field; or
- A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and five years of experience as described in “1” above; or
- Education and/or experience equivalent to “1” above.

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment.
