We are seeking a suitability qualified candidate to become our next investigative court editor/journalist.
Responsibilities:
Think strategically about the daily news cycle and manage ongoing court/legal coverage of trending stories
Mine court filings and exhibits to deliver exclusive news stories
Tap into your existing network of legal sources or develop a network of sources to deliver exclusive news stories
File stories with sharp, well-conceived angles that fit with our brand, with an eye to garnering exclusives and growing online traffic
Write quick daily SEO-optimized news stories with clean copy
Effectively package stories with strong visuals and display that will appeal to our readership for digital
Assign and edit stories to a team of other journalists
Give clear direction, provide constructive feedback, and produce copy that’s both lively and logical
Work with social, photo, and other departments seamlessly to better enhance your coverage
Be a self-starter and feel confident in making decisions and working independently
Quick news judgment, excellence in time management and confidence multitasking is a must
Qualifications:
3 years of experience in breaking legal news and huge passion for the entertainment industry
Exceptional editing, writing, and reporting skills
Deep understanding of the court/legal, entertainment/pop culture space and a network of established contacts
Strong news judgment and ability to craft enticing, SEO-optimized headlines
Knowledge of SEO best practices and social trends
Comfortable multitasking and working in a fast-paced online news environment
Experience using content management systems, photo editing software and web analytics tools
