POSITION SUMMARY:
The Walter Lord Library is the heart of the Middle School and serves as the premiere place for research instruction and support, as well as book recommendations. The Middle School community relies on the Library team to provide a wide range of support, inspiration, enrichment activities, and programming. Working with the Librarian, the Library Assistant will maintain a vibrant and welcoming space for students and support the Library's mission to empower students to be critical thinkers, effective and ethical users and producers of ideas and information, and lifelong readers and learners. The Library program strives to help develop men of character and integrity who have the skills and ability to make a positive contribution to the communities in which they live and work.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Programming:Organize calendars related to Library programsCraft and send the Library daily and weekly communicationsAssist in planning the Book FairAssist with special projects, programs, and clubsOversee the Black-Eyed Susan Award Reading ProgramReading and Research Instruction:
Assist students and teachers with reader's advisory and circulationLocate, check out, and make available all items across librariesCreate and manage subject resource lists using the Library catalogAssist with the MS Supplementary Reading ProgramLibrary Space Responsibilities:
Monitor and help Middle School students and faculty while using the library, including early morning access to the library and afternoon study hallCreate material displays and educational bulletin boardsMaintain an organized and tidy workroom and libraryMove book carts and cushions for programmingCollection Management Responsibilities:
Check-in, shelve items; process new books, examine materials, and withdraw or repair as neededAssist in maintaining an organized and up-to-date catalog and circulation systemDust, straighten, and pull shelved books forward regularlyTrack student and faculty book recommendations and create material order listsQUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degreeTechnology experience: Library catalog systems, Google products, database management, graphic design software, and web searchingSelf-starter with initiative and organizational skillsStrong interpersonal and written communication skillsAbility to handle multiple projects at onceTeam playerAttention to detailPrevious library experience in a PK-12 school setting preferred
