Ulysses Press, a trade book press with offices in Brooklyn, New York, and Berkeley, California, is looking for an enthusiastic, full-time Book Production Typesetter/Designer to join our publishing team. This job reports to the Director of Production. This person will work closely with the Ulysses Press team to design, layout, and produce Ulysses Press titles as well as reformat previously published books for reprints and prepare files for short print runs.
Required qualifications:
1 to 2 years working in InDesign and book production/design
A deep understanding and familiarity Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat, and an especially robust knowledge of InDesign.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, including the footnote and track changes functions
Careful attention to detail
Ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines and adapt to changing priorities
Strong written, verbal, organizational, and time-management skills
Knowledge of CMYK printing
Experience using Mac OS
Excellent organizational and communication skills
College degree or equivalent work experience
Other useful skills:
familiarity with editing marks
Experience with QuarkXpress
Candidates in the New York area would be required to maintain a hybrid work schedule.
