Alamance Community College (ACC) is seeking an Instructor in the Graphic Design Department to teach dual-credit photography and videography courses in a high-school setting through its Career and College Promise (CCP) program. This position will be embedded in a local high school that ACC serves and will operate on that school's calendar but will still report to the Graphic Design department head. The Graphic Design curriculum is designed to provide students with knowledge and skills necessary for employment in the graphic design profession, which emphasizes design, advertising, illustration, and digital and multimedia preparation of printed and electronic materials. Department instructors teach students:
- How to use industry-standard Adobe software - including Illustrator, Photoshop, In Design, Premiere Pro and After Effects - to complete projects such as logo design, photo manipulation, page layout, and digital art and illustration
- The principles of good design and layout, such as effective use of typographical elements; how to use contrast, repetition, alignment, and proximity to improve visual acuity and flow of page layout; color theory and appropriate color choice for each application; digital file packaging; client/media relations; and presentation skills.
Graduates of the program should qualify for employment opportunities with graphic design studios, advertising agencies, printing companies, newspapers, and any company with in-house graphic design operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Provide effective instruction to students in the classroom by preparing for each learning experience, providing supplemental electronic materials to enhance lessons, using effective evaluation methods to evaluate student performance.
- Support student learning outside of the classroom by holding regular office hours, providing information about additional resources outside of class, and responding to emails and phone calls in a timely manner so as to promote student success.
- Support curriculum development by participating in the creation and evaluation of courses, curriculum, and programs, participating in program advisory committees, attending departmental meetings, and serving as backup for other faculty members.
- Promote the success of the college by participating in standing committees and following college professional and ethical guidelines.
- Maintain teaching and work environment by maintaining equipment and supplies, ensuring overall cleanliness, functionality, and conformance to OSHA standards to provide a safe work environment.
- Stay current in chosen field and teaching methodology by meeting or exceeding all institutional professional development guidelines, participating in professional development workshops and seminars, and participating in professional organizations and reading journals in the teaching and field of automotive.
- Maintain accurate records such as attendance, grades, information for accreditation, and other important data and submit reports according to college policies.

Typical Qualifications
Education and/or Experience
Required
- Associate's degree and demonstrated industry experience and/or demonstrated competencies in the teaching discipline or alternate portfolio detailing industry experience and/or demonstrated competencies in the teaching discipline.
Preferred
- Advanced degree in graphic or visual communication or related field.
- Teaching experience in a high school and/or community college setting.
- Ability to develop successful strategies for enrollment growth, K-12 and higher education partnerships, student success, and student retention.
- Demonstrated competencies in the discipline of Graphic Design (e.g. applicable industry experience, industry recognized certification, teaching experience, knowledge of graphic design, visual design/communication and typographic principles)
- Excellent skills in Adobe CC applications (Photoshop, Bridge, Lightroom, Premiere Pro, After Effects)
- Photo and video correction and editing
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
