Overview The Division of Visual and Performing Arts within the Arts Institute of Middlesex County (AIMC) promotes arts, culture, folklife, and history as essential to vibrant communities and economic vitality. As part of the Department of Economic Development , the Division fosters interdisciplinary collaboration, advances equity and inclusion, and supports New Jersey artists and cultural institutions. We seek a detail-oriented Visual and Performing Arts Program Coordinator eager to engage with the County’s diverse cultural landscape. The ideal candidate is passionate about visual and performing arts, public art, and public service, with strong communication skills to engage artists, nonprofits, municipal entities, and the public. Reporting to the Division Head of Visual and Performing Arts , the Arts Program Coordinator will assist with Public Arts initiatives, grant management, interdisciplinary collaborations, and public events while supporting program planning, implementation, data collection, and reporting. This role requires collaboration across County divisions and external partners. Based at the New Brunswick Performing Arts Center , the position involves travel within and occasionally beyond Middlesex County. Responsibilities: Program and Event Assistance: Assist with programs and events throughout the year, providing administrative and on-site support Manage artist services, including developing and implementing technical assistance and networking opportunities Maintain artist and venue databases, registries, and resource lists Communications and Outreach: Communicate regularly with artists, grantees, consultants, municipalities, arts and culture organizations, and the public Assist with tabling, outreach, and surveying at Arts Institute public events Administrative Assistance: Assist with routine maintenance of ADA equipment and staff training Submit division event content to the program calendar and website Process payments through submission of resolutions, invoices, and purchase orders Qualifications: 2+ years in arts administration preferred Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred, preferably in a related field Experience in public art, visual arts, and/or performing arts preferred Self-starter with the ability to anticipate needs, solve problems efficiently, and take initiative Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with accuracy and thoroughness Strong organizational skills to set priorities, meet deadlines, and stay focused Excellent writing and communication skills Demonstrated accountability from project inception to completion Familiarity with Microsoft Office and Zoom; willingness to learn additional software platforms Learn more about the Arts Institute and its initiatives: Middlesex County Culture | Arts & Culture in Middlesex Co, NJ The Arts Institute of Middlesex County | Middlesex County NJ Salary: $50,000-$55,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications Benefits: Middlesex County offers competitive benefits, including a pension plan, on-site wellness coaches, health and dental insurance, and generous leave policies.
